Ney, 55, of Boston, first confessed killing: his 60-year-old bride of less than four months, and then later retracted the confession, according to authorities investigating the . trunk murder of the former Mrs. Elizabeth Lane. Ney said he met his wife in Florida last June. The slain woman's body was found packed in rock salt in the trunk. Ney, whose middle name Is Na-' poleon, boasted he was the "great great grandson ; of Napoleon's Marshal Ney." Willamette A Cappella Choir Holds First Practice of Year First practice of the Willamette university a cappella choir was held Thursday afternoon. Members of this year's organiza tion were announced Thursday morning by Dean Melvih H. Geist, director. . Prisoners Buy Defense Bonds A large number of the 963 prisoners- in the Oregon State penitentiary here have purchased war savings bonds, Warden George Alexander, reported to Gov. Charles A. Sprague Thurs day. Alexander said one convict wrote direct to Washington offi cials and ordered a $1000 bond. Officers for this semester were elected by the three Willamette fraternities this week. Special votes were necessary to fill va cancies created by students not returning, to school.
