Mor genthau, however, declined to say what his goal was. Sine the treasury probably ; will have! to borrow more than S10,00,00,0&0 la the next year, however, the treasury will sup plement these sales with reru lr ! subscription sales of the vsusl treasury securities. Morgenthau hopes the securi ties announced Thursday will be bought by; the general public in a savings , campaign. Some econo mists believe such a -campaign may Ward: off inflation by induc ing people to save instead of spending to : the limit and' thus bidding up prices. To J stimulate sales, the treas ury is planning a campaign ri valing the Liberty bond drives of World war days. On I the! opening day. May 1, about 16,000 postoffices and the federal reserve banks and branches will have the new se curities for sale. More postoffices, thousands of commercial banks, and" possibly department stores may be enlisted later as sales places. President Roosevelt has prom iaed to make the first purchase, and Mrs. Roosevelt the second. Defense saving bonds Al most identical with existing "baby bonds, in denominations ; of $25, $50, $1. f 5t and $1M. Series F savings bonds--Sim-liar to baby bonds except that denominations are $109. $500, $1000, X5000 and S10.000. Series O savings bond Same denominations as series F, but soldi aft face value and bear 2 per cent interest.'
