Following the concert there wai a reception in the home eco nomics rooms honoring particu larly the out-of-town guests among whom were John Stehn and Rex Underwood of the Uni yersity of Oregon department of music. Captain John Beard of the State college. Delbert Moore and Arlle Hatfield of CorvalHs. Miss Charlotte Plummer and Jack Plummer of Eugene, Vern on Wiscarson of Salem and Lor en Luper of Albany. Donald Chamberlain and Lois Ginther. former Lebanon high school stu dents now majoring in music at the state university were home for the concert. Mr. and Mrs. Tripp of Eugene, the parents of Gordon Tripp, director of the Lebanon band, were additional geusts. There are 45 pieces In the band and 47 voices in the choir. The clarinet quartet is made up of Jean White, Charlotte Bohle, Harold Michels and Lorelei Stew art; the horn quartet of Nancy lKrkpatrick, James Southwick, Wilma Green and Betty Brown; the brass quartet of Harold Post, George MacDonald. Missionary Group Has Visiting Day SILVERTON Eighteen guests from Salem churches attended the annual visitation day at the Mis sionary society at the Silverton Christian church Sunday after noon. Mrs. Martin Hannan, local president, presided, with Mrs. Wil liam Havernlck leading in devo tion. Rev. Frank Zook was the speaker, having for his subject "Beginning Peace for the World." Mrs. Ben Gifford, with Mrs. J. W. Jordan at the piano, led In group singing. A short play, "Sanctu a r y ," written by Muriel Bryan, was given under the direction of Mrs. Linn Neal. Taking part were Mrs. Will Egan. Mrs. Gus Herr, Mrs. Martin Hannan, Mrs. Harold Roop, Mrs. Lillian Senter. Tea was served in the social rooms with Easter decorations centering the table at which Mrs. Ben Gifford and Mrs. Martin Han nan poured. Serving were Mrs. Mary Andrews, Mrs. George Kirk, Mrs. Gus Herr. Easter Breakfast Planned by Church SILVERTON An Easter break fast, open to the public, at Trin ity church was included in plans made by Trinity Dorcas society at Its meeting Tuesday afternoon. The society, headed by Mrs. Os wald Johnson, divided its mem bership into groups of 12, with each group in charge of a two month benefit program. The Easter morning breakfast will be the first event of the group which includes Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Oscar Satern, Mrs. Elmer Thomp son, Mrs. Arthur Gottenberg, Mrs. Martin Hatteberg, Mrs. L. M. Lar- Bon, Mrs. Dan Riveness, Mrs. Amos Corhouse, Mrs. Robert Yokum, Mrs. Henry Storlie and Mrs. Henry Torvend. Tuesday's program consisted of missionary readings by Mrs. Os wald Johnson and Mrs. L. Two flu fires reported Tues day did no damage. One was at the office of Dr. Roland Miller the other at the home of Mrs. C. I. Leavengood. A former Lebanon boy. Glen DeAtley, is a new recruit in the navy. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Mayer and Dr. and Mrs. J. G. Gill were among the Lebanon people who attended the Pro America meet ing in Albany. C. E. Ingalls of Corvallis was the speaker. Mrs. Harold Olson, who has been in Arlington for a week with Mr. Olson and Norman who are employed with a highway construction crew there, has re turned. She also visited her daughter Ruth who is in college in Walla Walla. Nearly a third of the pic tures are in color. - Spring Is Here! Summing Birds Arrive at Scio BCIO Humming birds arrived In the Scio area March 11, ac cording to Dr. A. G. Prill, who has a large ornithological col lection in this city and has kept records of the humming birds' advent for several years. "Members of the species arrived here March 1 in 1939. the earl iest date shown in Dr. Prill's rec ords. Three times they have come on the 11th of this month and never later than the 17th. Dr. Prill is one of several Scioans who have affixed hum mers' feeders to their outside house walls. The lunch count ers are Inverted, four-ounce green bottles 10 which are at tached a celluloid flower. The bottle holds a syrup made of equal parts of sugar and boil ing water. A flock of the tiny birds have been known to empty a .bottle three times during a day.
