Is Set August 16-17 to Nearby Farms : DALLAS The annual tour of the Western Nut Growers associa tion has been announced for Aug ust 16 and 17 by C. E. Schuster, secretary-treasurer of that organ Ization. Among farms to be visited will be the Fred Beach farm where dif ferent Ages of filberts are being grown. On this farm control work On filbert blight and nut worms are being carried on. The John Thornburgh farm til Ing and other practices In filbert plantings will be discussed. . At Ferd Gronera walnut or chard soil problems will be dis cussed. ? At the Dr. Chandler filbert or chard Irrigation will be the main item of interest. ; Visit Salem Farms On the second day several other farms will be visited including A. Wolde's. Walnuts will be observed where blight- and spraying tests have been in progress. On the C P. Niebert farm more walnut Irri gation will be observed. In the afternoon, the group will first go to William Blake's near Salem where walnuts of all ages can be observed and where a young orchard is being rebuilt af ter being Injured by freexing. This work Is being done by budding and grafting. At the MeNary and Stolz walnut and filbert orchards inter-plantings of prunes and oth er tree fruits will be observed. On the first day the group is to meet at 8:30 a.m. at the court house In. Hillsboro, and at 1:30 p.m. at Scholls. jOn the second day the group is to meet at Aumsvllle at 9:30 a.m. and at Salem at 1:30 p.m. The group will meet at Sa lem Just north of the Willamette river bridge near the small park. The only other Star council in the state Is Hillsboro, according to the Columbia Knights magazine.
