W. Chadwick has designated the week of July SI to 28 as "Salem Salad Week." o Mayor Proclaims Salad Week Here July 21 to 28 Is Set as Time for All to Gorge Mayor Wm. W. Chadwick has signed a proclamation designating the week of July 21 to 28 as "Sa lem Salad Week." "Oar city is justly proud that ft is a large market for most salad ingredients ... both fresh fruits and vegetables produced in the area surrounding Salem," the mayor stated. Mrs. Fortin of Seattle is the guest of her son-in-law and daugh ter, Lieut, and Mrs. Frank B. Thrailkill. Mrs. Fortin is driving up to the. springs each day for treatments. "Bud" Sunneland: and young daughters, Barbara and Donie, vis ited his sister, Mrs. M. C. Good man, this week. Sunneland is a member of the 4th street fire company in Portland. Aurora Resident Dies of Infection AURORA -Mrs. Hattie Gloss, living north of Aurora, died Mon day at a Portland hospital from the effects of a scratch from a barbed wire. She was the mother of Frank Gloss, jr. of Aurora, Mrs. jlaxel Bricknell of Oak Grove, Mrs. Sarah Shepard of Canby and Aaron T. - Edmund of Portland, and sister-in-law of Ed Gloss, who served 16 years as constable, of Portland. - Dayton Legion Picnic Sunday DAYTON The annual picnic of American Legion and auxiliary, Dayton post, will be held Sunday. Paralysis Victim Back From South Partly Recovered TALBOT Virgil Calavan re turned home Monday from Warm Springs, Ga., where he has been for the past several months re ceiving treatments for infantile paralysis which he contracted while- attending Oregon State col lege. He was stricken with the disease September 26, 1937. Virgil is the son of J. M. Cala van. He graduated from Talbot grade school in 1932 and Jeffer son high school in 1936.
