INDEPENDENCE The Inde pendence chamber of commerce and Hop Bowl Inc. entered a float in the strawberry festival at Lebanon Friday. The float and the six pretty girls, who threw hops to the crowds, at tracted the attention of Edward Everett Horton, movie star, who was a guest at the festival and he spent nearly an hour visiting with the young ladles and ad miring the float. He seemed to be especially interested in the large bale of hops on the float and asked many questions about the hop industry. The girls on the float were Barbara Ruef, Barbara Madi son, Betty Addison, Marvel Coon, Rose Marie Chaxboneau and Wanda Messinger. The float was decorated at Independence by Glen C. Smith, Robert Craven, Mrs. Cora Berry and Mrs. E. E. Addison, who worked late Thursday evening getting it ready for the parade Friday. The truck used was fur nished by William Cockle. Jacob Coke Found Dead in His Room SILVERTON Z cob Coke, who lived on star route in the Bilverton Hills, waa found dead Saturday forenoon at the Cot tage hotel where he had taken a room for the night Coke, an elderly man, usually spends the -.night, at the hotel when he comes into town. Sat urday morning when he failed to make his appearance, .Mrs. Charity Scott, the landlady, tried his door and found him lying In bed. The city health officer. Dr. P. A. Loar, was called and pronounced him dead from nat ural causes. R. H. Wright Dies JEFFERSON J. E. Wright received -word of the death of his brother, Richard H. -Wright, 53, who died of heart, disease, in Los Angeles Friday. He was born in Illinois and lived in the west "about 35 years. Surviving are his wife and a daughter in Los Angeles and Seattle; a sis ter in Salem, one In Detroit and one in Los Angeles; one broth er, John E Wright, Jefferson. Spotty Week in Market Is Ended Moderately Favorable Sign Seen in Trend During Closing Session NEW YORK, June wp-The stock market today ended a ra ther spotty week on a moderate ly cheerful note. While price changes were small throughout the brief ses sion, steels, motors, mail orders. rubbers and specialties generally pointed upward. Many issues, however, closed virtually even or a shade in arrears. With numerous traders de serting boardrooms for week end holidays, the day's turnover was the smallest since May 13. Transfers totalled 175,740 shares against 382,360 last Saturday. The week's volume, due partly to the Memorial day shut-down, was the lowest in about a year. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks was up .1 of a point at 47.3, but on the week t'-owed a net decline of .2.
