W. R. Jonea farm about 2 y miles south of Gervais : and about one-half mile east of the Pacific highway, known then as '.he stage-road. It was named the Jones , school and Mr. Jessie B. Jones was - the first teacher. School was held then only three months doring the year and that during the summer. 'After about ' , two years the building was moved , over to the stage road, now about the Ralph Harper road on the -Pacific 4lgh way. i About 13,80 the building was , moved one mile south to its pres ent location and renamed Man ning school for E. W. Manning, . whose farm Is across the road. Joneses Are Teachers ! ' Many members ; of the Jones family Qualified as teachers and taught in this school. Some of ' them were Jessie, Silas and M. L. Jones, Emma and Sarah Jones, - daughters of S. W. 'R. Jones; I Grace, daughter of Jessie Jones, and Sylvia, daughter of Samuel n Jones. . School closed in this building :. December 6 of this year and the building which has served con tlnuously for IS years will be sold at auction. : - The new school building is lo cated one mile east of the old site to be nearer the eenter of the -school population. Three acres of land was bought from the Harri son Jones estate ana a iuuu - modern school building erected. ' Building- Is -Modern It is a two-room school with folding doors, a large stage, base .: ment, furnace, plumbing, ejectrlc , ity and new school desks. ; It was bunt with WPA labor and has been renamed Pioneer school. I The school board who served -during thai construction . of the building, included Ralph Harper, chairman, Frank Henney and R. ' G. McKay, directors, Mrs. Alice Barnett, clerk. ' Miss Ruth Reames of Indepen dence la the teacher this year and there are 10 pupils. A dedication program is planned shortly. r r . The Chicago prelate lunched with the president, a per I aonal friend. Leroy S. Boiindy Dies ui Portland WOODBURN Leroy Sheldon Boundy, 41, died Saturday morn ing in Portland. He was born October , 1898, at Monroe, Ore. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Boundy of Pull man, Wash,; one brother, John of McMlnnville, and two sisters, Mrs. Edna Hatley of Pullman and Mrs. Carrie Flanery of Salem. The body was shipped to Pull man for funeral services and burial by the Ringo mortuary.
