Caine Returns Home SILVERTON W. K. Caine, better known as "Dad Caine, was able to be returned to his home Wednesday. Caine was rushed to the Silverton hospital a week ago following a sudden illness. SILVERTON "Ann of Green Gables" is the play selected by Guy DeLay for presentation by the student body as its first of the season. The play will be given early in December and characters will be - chosen neit week. Pant Presidents Organize SILVERTON Past presidents of the Silverton auxiliary of the American Legion have organized with Mrs. Charles Johnson of Salem elected president. Mrs, A. J. Titus was . named secre tary; Mrs. Malcolm Cameron was made chairman of the scrap- book and history department. Child welfare will be the ob ject of the organization. Asks Comparison On Pension Work SCOTTS MILLS Cecil Ed wards and Mr. Prather of Salem and Mr. McFarlan of near Sil verton attended the Scotts Mills Townsend meeting Monday ev ening. Edwards spoke briefly in the interest of Charles Spregue fcr governor. Mr. Edwards asked those present to compare care fully the past record of the two gubernatorial crdnidates. He seemed to feel if this were done there would be no question who would be the next governor. Averil Fry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will am Fry is home for two weeks furlough from Hrmilton Field, Calif. The proposed improvements In Scio will cost approximately $22,- 000 including a bond loan of $12, 000 and a grant of approximately $10,000. Work is to start by Jan uary 1, according to the PWA. MocheL Mrs. F. W. Settlemier and Mrs. W. D. Simmons. . Laura D. Jackson Dies at Woodburn WOODBURN Laura David Jackson, 69, died Wednesday morning at her home near Hub bard. She was born ia St. Paul, Oregon, in May, 1SC9 and has made her home in Marion county nearly all her life. On June. 10, 1891, she married Je rome R. Jackson of St, Paul who survives her along with three sons, L. Clark Jackson of Sa lem, Ralph Jackson of Lexing ton and David Jackson of Pen dleton; one daughter, Mrs. Mar garet Supple of San Francisco; sisters. Mary Kirkpatrick and Blanche Gooding of St. Paul and Hilda Guerin of Donald: four brothers, Fred, Jack, Ralph and Eugene Jackson all of St. Paul. Also 10 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 a. m. at the St. Paul Catholic church where the deceased was married. Interment will be in the St. Paul cemetery. Hesitation of Rosary will be Friday at 7:30 p. m. atthe Mil ler funeral home.
