Struble of Salem has been appointed by the Lebanon school board as architect for the proposed new schoolhouse to be erected in case the bonds carry at the special election September 27 rnd . the application for PWA funds are made before October 1. Elmer Fitigerald, rice-president of the Santlam fish and game association, with Mrs. Fitzgerald, Hugh Kirkpatrick and E. H. Bohle went- Sunday to Clear lake to stay for the closing of the resort Tnesday after which they will go to Three Creek lake for an outing. ' Lebanon Berry Pickers went down to defeat before the on slaughts of the Hood River Braves Friday night. K- Marjorie Stringer, daughter of Senator and Mrs. C. D. Stringer, was treated Thursday at the Lebanon general hospital for a badly lacerated knee caused by being thrown from her bicycle into loose gravel when riding to school. Several stitches were required to close the wound and she will be unable to attend school for j some time. Other hospital cases are Helen Vogt . of Scio, Infection caused by a splinter penetrating her right hand while picking hops near Jefferson. Mrs. George Mnnts, tefephone operator at Sweet Home, appendectomy; Charles Long, fractured arm caused by j falling from a" tree; a son born September 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Trippett of route 3. Mrs. N. M. Newport was called to Albany; by the illness and death of her mother. Mrs. Mary Cougill. St, who. died September 16. :').': r . Preparing tor Fair Sweet Home and the 15 com munities making up the Union high school are working full time in preparation for the fair to be held September 22 and 23. Lebanon dram corps will take part in the parade which starts Thursday at 10 a. m.. followed by srowning of the queen by Er nest Scholl. ' president of the school : board ; welcome by Mayor McGlothern; presentation of high school; faculty by Harry Palmer; address by Rex Putnam, state superintendent of public instruc tion; presentation of awards by A. J. Sportsman. In the after noon music, platform entertain ment, sports, and stock judging and a 3 -act comedy: "Aaron Slick from Punkln Creek," will be features. : ; Expect Increase, Silverton Budget SILVERTON The citizen's budget committee started work Monday but likel.- will not have the city budget for 1935 drawn until nexWweek as new forms are being used under direction of Se pb us Starr of the state auditing department. No change in local salaries has been granted but the budget will be increased over 1938 to cover warrants and bonds falling due. Members of the committee are George Steelhammer, H. B, Lath am, E. H. Banks, E. J. Adams, H. W. Preston and C. R. Wilson. ANGEL Fifty more boys and girls tripped up the steps of St. Mary's grade school Monday than arrived for the opening day a year ago. A total of 297, 162 boys and 135 girls registered this year as compared" with the 247 of 1938. About 30 more are expected this week. A goodly number of the local children attend . the training school at Mt. Angel Normal school making the enrollment at the public school . somewhat smaller. The largest number registered for any one grade was 47 in the seventh.
