Cottage Grore, Eugene and Albany camps of the Spanish American war veterans and their auxiliaries. Sunday. The picnic is to be held la the Lane-Benton park near Peoria on the west aide highway, Sunday. A bas ket dinner will be a feature of the noon hour, and flag day will ba observed during the aft ernoon! program. ALBANY Mrs. Gertrude Dow llng wilt leave the latter part of the week for Portland to attend the slate convention of the Ladies! of the GAR, of which ahe is state president.. Mrs. Helen Horton and Miss Sarah Louise Baker will attend as delegates from Albany. ALBANY The Albany chap ter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, have closed their meeting for the season. Dr. Quirnijs Breen of Albany was guest j speaker for the closing meeting. Dr. Breen spoke on historical research, which has . been the theme for the local chap ter the past year. Meetings will be resumed in September. Mrs. . D. M. Rohrbough was stepped up to regent, to succeed Mrs. E. Barrett, resigned, because of Poor health. Mrs. Minnie Wood was elected to the office of vice -regent. Remodeling City Hall Is Started A UM SVILLE A WPA project began here" Monday, when excava tion was started on the remodel ing of the city hall. Tile for drainage will carry excess water In rainy weather, to a ditch ex tending north and south, one block west. The project for new sidewalks here has been ap proved . and will be taken up later., i . Smith to Resign As Stayton Mayor STAYTON George A. Smith will resign this month as . mayor of the town of Stayton and ask tie appointment of Mayor-elect W, A. Weddle. The pressure of business at this time necessitated his 'resignation Smith has had more than 20 years experience in city administration. He has served en the council and a mayor.1 . Some of the things accomplish ed during his administration are: Construction "of a new city hall, the improvement of the new city park, and the construction of sidewalks throughout the residen tial sections of the town. The beginners department is be ing held in the Christian church while the other three departments are being held in the elementary school building.
