Taylor Pleased by Drama Reported on Mend MACTiEAY, Feb. 24. A packed house was in attendance Saturday night when the Central Howell community club presented the three act comedy "The Blue Bag." All parts were exceptionally well taken. The scene was the Macklin ho tel with few patrons, in a small town. Mrs. Macklin played by Mrs. Clarence Johnson had three am bitions: to make her hotel well known at any cost, hare a public wedding in the hotel and hold her husband though she considered him a fickle old tool. John Lauderback took the part of the skiddlsh husband; Ruth Simmons and Jimmie Leighty were the eloping couple, Helen Nafziger and Raymond Werner represented Mr. and Mrs. Keefer trying to steal the blue bag con taining the Jewels. Anton McDonald in search of the blue bag was portrayed by Earl Schar, his chauffeur, a sheik, Max Simmons. The maid who vamped the sheik, Hazel Hanson. The actress in disguise was Emo gine Wood, the custom officer was taken by Ray Rutchman. Other numbers on the program were piano solo, Irvln Branch; vo cal solo, Albert Egan; tap dance. Liberty District Finds Two Inches of Snow on Ground Monday Morning LIBERTY, Feb. 24 About two. inches of snow was on the ground here Monday morning, as south wind blowing, and more snow falling. There was no freeze and con sequently the ground is in I slushy condition as surface water yet drained off. Car Parked During Rites At Mortuary Catches Fire SILVERTON. Feb. 24. The sedan automobile belonging to Dr. W. Steelhammer of Portland took fire during the services for his mother's funeral Sunday af ternoon as it stood parked behind the Ekman funeral home. Mrs. E R. Ekman discovered the fire in the upholstering and in the back seat and with the aid of Mrs Edson Comstock extinguished it. Some damage was done to the up holstering. Fierst of the Veterans CCC mill camp, was taken to the Portland hospital for an emergency operation Thurs day morning. Silverton's sick list has mounted considerable during the past week and Includes Mrs. G. I. Barr, Miss Beryl Fletcher, Mrs. Nora Ball and Jack Fox. Mrs. Lee Alfred was called to Portland because of the serious burns of her brother, Miles San ders. Sanders was ill but was up and about. It was thought he fainted and fell on the stove. Charlotte Brokke, the small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Helmer Brokke was taken to the Silverton hospital Saturday for observation. Richard Hartley, who was in jured in a coasting party a week ago at the Silverton Hills, will be moved the first of the week to the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hartley. Record Crowd at PTA Gathering FALLS CITY, Feb. 24. The February Parent-Teachers meet ing Monday night was attended by a record crowd. Membership songs by the audience led by Mrs. R. Rawl with Miss Treat at the piano opened the meeting follow ed by the repeating of the Lord's prayer. The president, Mrs. W. L, Russell, conducted a short busi ness session. The P.T.A. attend ance banner went to the second and third grade room but tbey received plenty of competition from the other grades. Mrs. Wal ter Peterson will be the chairman of next month's program commit tee. The meeting was turned over to Miss Phyllis Dorffler, chair man of the program committee, who announced the following numbers of tbe Founder's day program: A report of the conference of Home Makers held at Corvallis last week by Mrs. J. B. Hatch; a short talk on "The Meaning and Origin of Founder's Day" by Mrs Alma Freer; vocal trio, Miss Thomas, Mrs. K n a p p and Mrs. Reiber; history of P.T.A. work In Falls City; candle lighting service in commemoration of the Parent- Teachers' association with Jack Keeler, Doris Silvers, Mrs. M. L. Thompson. Mrs. Frances Speergtra and Mrs. W. L. Russell participat ing in the ceremony.' The large birthday cake was auctioned off for the sum of one dollar and a halt to W. L. Rus sell by D. J. Ickes. A birthday of fering was taken by A. A. Pince and the audience brought the pro gram to a close by the singing of America. Refreshments were serv ed by the high and grade school faculty. ' Attoraejr for the Estates v Reed Services Held Lebanon Pioneer of '52 Honored by Many Friends at Funeral Monday LEBANON, Feb. 24 The community in which he had lived since coming to Oregon as a youth of 14, in 1852, paid tribute to John Gerald- Reed, 97, who died here Saturday, in simple funeral services at the Howe chapel here at 2 p.m. today. He left his boyhood home and birthplace, Burlington, Iowa, where he was born August 31, 1838, to make the covered wagon journey across the plains in a par ty of 24 wagons led by his grand father, father of his mother, Het- tie Morgan Reed, a native of Ken tucky. His father, James N. Reed, a native ot Illinois, was another leader of the party. After his arrival in Oregon, where his family settled in Linn county, he made nine trips to California with wagon-loads of flour and apples, while still a youth in his 'teens. Married 76 Years " Death closed tbe final chapter of the 76 years of married life he had shared with his wife. Anna Bond Reed, 93, pioneer of 1853, who survives. The couple was married on September 21, 1859. the same year that Oregon became a state, at tLe home of the bride's father, Nathan W. Bond, on the Santiam river near Albany, south east of Knox Butte. Her parents, Nathan and Elizabeth Traylor Bond, had moved to Linn county from near Jefferson, in Marlon county, where they had spent their first winter in Oregon at the home of her uncle, Jesse Loo ney. who came to Jefferson as a member of the first emigrant par- of 1843 that laid the way to Oregon. Moved to Lebanon Mr. and Mrs. Reed lived many years on their large farm near Lebanon, but before the turn of the century had acquired a large house in Lebanon, where they lived the latter years of their life. Mr. Reed was mentally alert and physically active until shortly before his death. Besides his wife, Mr. Reed Is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Eli zabeth Denny, Portland; a son. Austin Reed, near Albany; three grandchildren, six great-grand children, and two great-great grandchildren. Girl, Burned by Fall On Stove, Under Knife FALLS CITY, Feb. 24 Little Gertrude Morgan, who received serious burns when her clothing caught on fire from the heating stove a few weeks ago had to have new skin grafted.
