Sovik was at one time pas tor of Immanuel church here but for sometime they have been mis sionaries at Kioshan, province of Honan, China. They arrived Id the states July 15. The Cherrians plan to visit dif ferent Willamette valley eitiec between now and state fair time, August 31-September 7, to pay "good will" visits and invite the citizens of other communities to the fair. Corvallis service clubs and wo men's organisations will meet at a hotel there on An gust 15 at noon to receive the Cherrians and one Friday noon in August will be chosen for a joint meeting at Eu gene. Carlton Smith. 748 Ferry street, will be superintend ent of the art' department at the Oregon state fair here August 31 September 7. She has named Mrs. Charles H. Rundell of Portland as her assistant. Plans are made to have the art department room in the ag ricultural building redecorated and remodeled to provide the proper atmosphere for the dis plays of art work which are ex pected from many sections of the state. Federal Aid Road Contract Day Set The first meeting of the state highway commission, to award contracts under the federal high way aid allocation, will be held la Portland August 29, R. H. Bal dock, state highway engineer an nounced yesterday. Oregon was allocated 19,000,000 of these funds. The first batch of contracts will aggregate approximately 3 1,0 00, 000.
