Winifred who was called to Gresham early Wednesday morning by the illness of her mother, Mrs. Sampson, ar rived there a short time after her mother had passed away. Mrs. Sampson had been an invalid for some time and had recently been suffering from a combined attack of influenza and pneumonia. Ho de clared that were 80 per cent of tho children under school ago im munized to diphtheria and small pox, there would need bo no tear of epidemics of this disease In children of any age. At present about 35 per cent of the preschool children in tho county are Immun ized and from 49 to 45 per cent in the city. Dr. Douglas is aiming to Immunize around 100 children a year. Navy Pugilist Here A former heavyweight boxing champion of the United States navy visited Sa lem yesterday. He is Lawrence A. Wooten of Forest Grove who was here to attend the annnal meeting of the Oregon State Fox Breeders association in the ca pacity of secretary-treasurer. In the navy he was known as "Bat tling Chub Harry". Wooten yes terday resigned his position with the association on account of an ailment he says has resulted from war time disabilities. Rob ertson for trial until Tuesday, January 17, was entered In the records yesterday. The senate held a brief session Monday morning, adopted one resolution, and thea adjourned until 11 a. m. Monday. . The resolution provided for a charge of five cents, plus postage, for all senate calendars, bills, memorials and resolutions, ether than those allotted to legislators, committees, educational institu tions, certain eonaty officials and libraries. Legislators were re stricted to receipt of five bills and calendars. Senator Dunne said the enforce ment of the resolution would re sult la saving the taxpayers of Oregon many thousands of dol lars annually. He referred to re quests ot various state depart ments for as many as 70 copies of one bill. Early declared that employers had been liberal In their contri butions to the workmen's compen sation fund while the state had shared no part in the expense ot conducting the department.
