The resolu tion, which was presented by Ar thur Bushman, of Springfield Mill & Elevator Co., and unani mously adopted by the board was as follows: "The Board of Governors of the Oregon reed Dealers association hereby goes on record as favor able to legislation which shall provide that butter substitutes shall be required to be labelled with the name or names of the ingredients from which they are manufactured, which labelline stiall be In type and appearance the same as the trade name of the product itself." Referring to the resolution, Mr. Bushman, who is District Gover nor for the association for the Eugene district, said, "Knowledge of the content of oleomargarine should in our opinion lead to a lowering of Its consumption, es pecially in the country districts, where it enjoys its largest sale. and where its sale is most directly competitive with local production There is a belief In many quarters that oleomargarine is largely a milk by-product, fich is not true. We believe that spreading. inrougn sue- labelling as sug gested, of the knowledge of the nature and foreign derivation of butter substitutes, will be a dis tinct aid to the dairy industry, as wen as a move toward better health through greater use of but ter." The resolution will be made a part of the Instructions of the association's legislative commit tee, for consideration in connec tion with the next session of the Oregon state legislature. Volume of Shipments Very Light Depleted storage holdings of fresh fruits and vegetables in the three states of the Pacific North west are indicated in carlot load ings for the week ending Friday April 11, from these three states which total only 1S83 ears. With only two or three exceptions (dur tog Btonny raid-winter weather) this is the lightest weekly volume or carlot shipments from this ter ritory eince last fall. Loadings of early spring vegetables from the northwest, although of consider able Importance fro localized areas were of small total volume com eared with the volume of apples and potatoes moving from north western storages. This week's loadings from Ore gon Include: apples 24 cars, cauL Ifrdwer-6, ontons SS, pears 11. and potatoes 51 cars, totalling 130 carloads. Washington load ed: apples 63S cars, asparagus 1 cars, onions 5, pears 15, and po tatoes 22S cars, totalling 803 car loads from that state. Idaho load ed: 26 cars of apples, 8 cars ot onions, and 4 26 cars of potatoes, with a total of 450 car8 from Ida ho. Apple loadings from Idaho and Oregon show only minor variation from recent weeks. Washington's volume declined 100 ears from that of recent weeks. The apple market strengthened at Yakima and Wenatchee shipping-points to the extent of 25 to 30c per bozoa nearly all varieties and classes. Total U. S. loadings 'of apples was only 971 cars compared with the 1200 car average of recent weeks. Cauliflower movement from Roseburg. Oregon, totalled only I cars this week, bringing the spring cauliflower deal virtually to a close with a total of 3 cars to date. The cauliflower market strengthened alightly at north western points, but the week clos ed with eastern demand very slow. California continues to load about ! 50 cars of cauliflower daily, which is mora than adequate for eastern demand. Onions strengthened slightly as warehouse stocks became deple ted.
