For the first time in Its history the ihree de partments of this company in Sa lem Joined together to celebrate the lolly . Christmas time as. a group. . The hall was beautifully decor ated with a large Christmas tree and all the festooning and holly and wreaths which go to make the symbols of the Tuletide. Dancing ' and cards were enjoyed between the hours of 8:30. o'clock and 10 o'clock. Following dancing a delightful program was presented. Miss Madge Re Id gave a group of piano solos; Miss Frances Baler gave some excellent tap dances; Mrs. Hazel Cook gavetwo readings; and a clerer original skit, "Mod ern Cinderella" was presented by Leon a Mosher, reader; and the following as the characters, Lil lian Swegle, Frances Bafler, Ella Starr. Sophia Hart, and Goldie Swegle. After this highly amusing skit Miss Ruth Hazelton sang and the program was concluded by Miss Thelma McWilliams, Miss Con stance Smart, and Miss Ruth Haz elton in chorus girl costumes ringing a group of well received Christmas carols. A midnight supper concluded one of the happiest parties which this group of folk hare ever had. Lewis La Bare, district superin tendent, was master of ceremon ies, and gave tire greetings. Committees in charge of this gay affair were the program com mittee, Leon a Mosher, Hazel Cook, and Ruth Hazelton; the dec orating committee, Helen Elf strom, Marie Bertram, Babe Darl ing, Veda Barker. Miss Thomp son, Mrs. Adolph. N. J. Morten sen. C. E. Kertson, A. F. Waller, and W. L. Callaway. The refresh ment committee was Eleanor Boyle, Lena Victor, Delia Bayne, Alvira Townsend, Daisy Varley, Miss Simmons, Mrs. Oglesbee, C. F. Goode. C. H. Corson. (Jlen Hunter and K. O. Clark. Mrs. Claud Fallin had charge of ar ranging for card playing. O. E.S. Social Club Plans Children's Party The regular meeting of the So cial Afternoon club of Chadwick Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star will be held Monday after noon, Dec. 23 at the Masonic Temple. This will be the annual children's party for the children of the members. The committee in charge is Mrs. Sedie Tomlinson, chairman, Mrs. Dora Wallace. Mrs. Lila Antrican, Mrs. Belle Niles Brown, Mrs. Mynne Stewart, Miss Gussie Niles, Mrs. Minnie Protzman and Mrs. Edna Rowland. Cross entertained the members of the East Central cir cle of the First Methodist church at her home on Chemeketa street Thursday afternoon. The guest rooms were beautiful in their fes tive Christmas decorations of hol ly, red tapers and tinseled ever greens. During the business hours, dis cussion was carried on concerning the proposed Sunday school tem ple. Bazaar articles were also brought and exchanged at this meeting. Late in the afternoon Mrs. Cross was assisted in serving by Mrs. Ray Farmer, and Mrs. John McNary. A. A. U. W. Folk To Hear Miss Findley Miss Mary Findley, state secre tary of the national council of pre vention of war, who has just re turned from Washington, D. C, and a conference there, will give a brief report of this meeting. A quartette from the high school will sing. This noon luncheon meeting is planned for the noon hour only. MONMOUTH The Monmouth Music Study club, organized un der supervision ot Mrs. R. D. El liott Ireld the December meeting Thursday night at Arnold Arms with 17 members present. The club is studying musical history and harmony this winter, looking toward an aim of better music. The; first part of the evening was spent in listening to a broad cast from the Standard School of Music, after which piano duets were played by Phillip Dodds and Erla Mae Murdock; Winifred Eb bert and Leonard Fleishman; and a-piano eoIo by Prudence Haller. Musical gatnes and refreshments were closing features of the even ing. GERVAIS Mrs. Sumner Stev ens was hostess for the monthly meeting and Christmas party of the Hermosa club at her home Thursday afternoon. The table for the one o'clock luncheon was prettily decorated with a Christ mas tree on which was stockings containing directions for finding the gifts provided for- the mem Uters. Holly and lighted candles in the living rooms added to the Christmas spirit. All the club members were present. WOODBURN The Evergreen chapter of the Rainbow girls had a delightful Christmas party In the Masonic Temple Thursday night. Games were played and" each girl brought a gift which was ex changed at the Christmas tree. At the conclusion of the evening refreshments were served by the committee in charge ot the party, Dorothy Austin and Nona Otjen. Miss Nell Thielsen, Mrs. George A. White and Miss Henrietta Wh&e saw the Stratford Upon Avon players in "Romeo and Ju liet" Wednesday night in Port land. Miss Dorothy and Miss Hen rietta White will see "Hamletr by the same company tonight." Mrs. W. P. Birthday, Party At Garfield School An original and unusual party was that for which little Miss Gay nelle Coursey, and Catherine Mac kay shared honors with their teacher. Mrs. Mildred Trent, fifth grade room of the Garfield school Thursday afternoon between 2:30 o'clock and 3:30 o'clock at which time they were surprised by Mrs. G. G. Mackay and Mrs. Horace Coursey. The occasion for this surprise was the birthday of each of the honor guests. Both Mistress Mac kay and Mistress Courser were 11 years old. Birthday cakes were presented to each inscribed with the name of each recipient. These cakes were cut by the honor guests and served to the 32 chil dren present and Miss Margaret uosper special guest, and little George Mackay. The fifth grade room was beau tifully decorated with Christmas greens and a Christmas tree. Games were enjoyed by the little folk before refreshments were served. WOODBURN The Federated Women of the Methodist Episco pal church met at the home of Mrs. W. D. Simmons Tuesday aft ernoon. Mrs. A. E. Austin the president presided over the program which was opened by Christmas carols. Mrs. Edith Love sang a Christ mas solo, which was followed by the Christmas story by Mrs. Rob ert Peterson, related the Christ mas, narrative from Ben Hur, aft er which Mrs. Coleman read a let ter from - Miss Edna Holder, a missionary in India written espe cially to this conference. The Christmas spirit was dis played In holly decorations, which lent an air of cheerfulness to the rooms. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. C. A. Parr, Mrs. Glenn Hartong, Mrs. V. D. Bain and Mrs. Ida Brennan. A chorus of 50 voices will sing Christmas carols between 8:45 o'clock and 9 o'clock this morn ing at Miller's store. As a sup plement to the carols. Miss Max ine Sauter, soloist, will Bing some special Christmas songs.
