Crossings Vacated Details in volved In the vacation of four railroad crossings on the road be tween Marion and Jefferson have been completed, and the county eciurt will enter the final order in the case today, according to an nouncement made Friday. Arrangements originally were matte with the Equitable Savings and Loan association to finance instruction of the building to the extent of f 35,060, the answer recites. After completion of the building A. Merrill, D. D., of Chicago, HI., wilt preach Sunday morning in the First Con gregational church of Salem, Ore., and that night in the First Con gregational church of Oregon CKy. Ore. Dr. Merrill was a ipeaker at the Pacific slope congregational con gress held this week in the First Conrrerational church of Port land. He is secretary of promotion for the national congregational commission on missions and leads the work organised to promote inc interest of American Congrega tionalists in their missionary en terprise. The enterprise embraces the ac tivities of over i 3.000 American pastors, evangelists, teachers physicians, nurses and social workers at work in this country and abroad and the help of 5. 775 nationals employed In foreign countries. The annual cost is more than five million dollars. The career of Dr. Merrill has been consecrated to the missionary cause. As pastor he was chosen to head the committee on mission ary apportionment, Massachus etts Congregational conference. In 1911 he was elected secretary of the first commission on apportion ment of the national council or the congregational churches. Ha left this position to become New England secretary of the laymen's missionary movement, 1914 to 1917. From 1917 to 1922 he was secretary of the Vermont Congre gational conference. In 1922 he became superintendent of the Con gregational conference of Hlinois. He took his present position De cember 1926.. As state sperinten- dent or secretary Dr. Merrlirs work was largely the administra tion of home missionary work within the state and the promo tion of general missionary inter est.
