R. 8. f Hohenzollem Library of 100,000 Volumes Is Held BERX.IK The family library of the' Ilohenzollerhs, comprising about 100,000 volumes. bpides numerous mapt. musical publica tions and sketches, forms part of the Hohenzollem inventory claim ed by the German- republic as being the property of the state. Pending the ultimatea decision of, the courts, the library remains in-th former Royal castle at Berlin. , The library was. founded September 20. 1862, when the private librarie of Frederic the Great. Kings Frederic Williams II, III and IV, and the small but valuable personal library of Queen Louise of Prussia, were incorpor ated. " Prior to that date these various libraries were kept at dif ferent castles. The originator of the. idea of founding a library of the Hobfcn zollerns was Duvinage, the lib rarian of Frederic William IV, vho suggested the plan ' to the tlnp- tn IS.". Dr. Dohmo. overcame this opposition. By 1871 the new library con tained 10.000 volumes. At the suggestion of Emperor William I, a Buber of contributions from the library were made to other lib--raries. From 1880 to 188& the Ilohen zollern library 'was steadily en larged, rearranged and - recata- logued and with the ascension of Kmperor William II, and the new librarian, Walter Robert Tornow, it was given an entirely, new lease.
