The 1 aaliant features of such a machine necessarily had to be efficiency and, simplicity, with as few parts as possible, all well and sturdily built, -and how well this idea has been accomplished was clearly shown on the demon stration of the machine in actual operation on Mr. Bartosz' flaxl field before some interested and! pnthnsiastie visitors. The pulling I machine is simply an attachment to an vardinary Deeririg binder,! with which most farmers are fa-J miliar. Only a few acres" of flax were grown In the beginning, and then more, by way of experiment than ln "hope of profit. The past year approx imately, 2;SO0 acres of fiber flax was grow a in the Willamette val ley near Salem. As the , acreage increased it w-as necessary to pro vide more modern facilities , for manufacturing the flax straw into the finished ; prod act.
