as few parts as possible, all well

was clearly shown on the demon
stration of the machine in actual
operation on Mr. Bartosz' flaxl

ine back onto the elevating plat-
form of the binder, thence tied
into neat bundles and thrown off
in the nsual way. The binder is
of the United States is. rapidly gravitating to Oregon because of the marvelously favorable conditions and prodigality of

, Doubled Capacity . ...
From a small, beginning only a
few.years ago, the flax industry
has grown to become a thriving
and pretentious business. Only a
few acres" of flax were grown In
the beginning, and then more, by
way of experiment than ln "hope
of profit. The past year approx
imately, 2;SO0 acres of fiber flax
was grow a in the Willamette val
ley near Salem. As the , acreage
increased it w-as necessary to pro
vide more modern facilities , for
manufacturing the flax straw into
the finished ; prod act. The state
flax industry, anticipating this in
creased growth, has added more
retting tanks, enlarged its plant,
and installed machinery' that will
undoubtedly doable the capacity

cient! pulling of the flax is no
doubt the end ntost to be desired,

rugged simplicity, a point which
