Peony Does Double Doty Most varieties of the peony are In bloom In my garden the last week In May. but by a careful se lection o the early mid season and late varieties one can' hare bloom for six weeks or even longer. Many varieties will keep in the house as cut flowers for two weeks or more. A word of cau tion just here: If you want to see the wonderful tints of the more delicately colored varieties. cut the 'flower Just as the first petals begin to unfold and allow it to open indoors out of the di rect sunlight. The peony stays green all sum mer, thus making It equally suc cessful for artistic landscape as for wealth of bloom. My garden Is located three and one halt miles south of Salem on the Liberty highway, one fourth mile sonth of the Salem Heights community club hall. A visit during the blooming sea son will be worth while if. you love flowers. A house is not a home without a garden and September. October and November Is the best time to plant peonies, but the sooner they can be planted the more apt they are to bloom the first year after planting.
