INDUSTRIAL OREGON PRODUCES .v ;QUAL5TY- The advertisers on this page are OREGON FIRMS.? i Each takes rJtide in putting "ORE GON QUALITY' into its products. When you buy their goods you are assisting in a mutual ly beneficial co-operation to bring bigger, payrolls more capital, more people into Oregon. You help build bigger towns and cities. .You increase and stabilize the markets for Oregon farm products. - 1 -. '' ' Your success is inseparably interwoven with theirs. Every dollar you spend for their pro ducts will influence the future of Oregon to your mutual benefit. Ask your home dealer to supply you with more profitable, says II. A. Lind gren, animal husbandry extension specialist at the Oregon Agricul tural college. Beef cattle production In Ore gon represents a $29,000,000 in dustry. Three-fourths of the state's area, or about 45 million acres. Is grazing land, most of which Is unsuited to any other purpose. Much of this area Is cattle range, the economical use of which depends upon careful at tention to efficient methods of production, believes Mr. LIndgren. Average' beef calf crops In the state are about 65 per cent, On many ranches it runs as low as 40 per cent. Tn some Instances range losses run as high as 10 per cent, and average 5 per cent. Methods of Increasing the calf crop percentage and calling atten tion to the can sea of heavy losses are being sought, to cut down the beef production costs. Cost of producing a weaner calf is now around $35, according to figures gathered from beef cat tle men In 10 counties. By in creasing the average beef calf crop to. 75 per cent, the average , cost of the weaner calf would be re duced by $4.50, Mr. LIndgren points out. A further reduction of 50 cents could be made ' by reducing losses Just 1 per cent. BKS 10Lii.ES ; AUTOMOTIVE PARTS Line and Force and Business Have AH Increased During The Past Year i Dan (W.E.) Burns wholesales automotive parts, and lie supplies the trade for half a dozen counties of the central Willamette valley district. He started in as agent for the QMG trucks, i about, five years ago; but gradually he drift ed Into the parts line until truck selling Is "a minor matter. r The house carries the largest line of bearings, brake linings, automobile belts and beltings, pis tons and other repair parts in the country south of Portland- Many automobile agents carry one or two spare parts 'for their own par ticular cars, but in case of a larger demand, for replacement, they must send out for these parts, Dan has them; keeps In quantities and for practically every standard machine. He "does most of his business with the garage and re pair shops and agents of the valley and not with the retail trade - of Salem. - -':- : I, more profitable, saya h. a. The company was established by that unfailing civic leader, George F. Rodgers, who served as presi dent until his .untimely passing in September of last year, with Fred D. Thielsen ably filling the office ot secretary-treasurer. Mr. Thiel sen manages this great wholesale paper company as he manages the gavel of -the Salem Rotary club with insight, clarity of dealing, and man-to-man squareness. In addition to being headquar ters for a complete line bf print ing papers of every sort, the es tablishment has a splendidly equipped ruling and book .binding department. And it isn't only pa per of a wide, 'variety of weights that the company carries, but also twines and specialties for the bindery.- ' Milady's paper plates for out-of-door luncheons these swelter ing June dayg are more than like ly to be products from this whole sale house. And still In addition to paper bags and cartons they carry a large stock pf crepe paper and carpet linings, and varying weight wrapping papers. Special or unusual-orders may be filled at any time through the local whole sale house through their cooper ative arrangements with the Port land warehouses. Loose leaf ledgers and transfer binders and all types of special ruled blanks are available here. . An interesting : connection 4has been made between this,; local wholesale house and the Oregon Pulp and Pajer company's Salem mill whereby the former establish ment acts in fene capacity of re-' taileTs and distributors. If the average Salem citizen is apt to think he makes small con tact with his city's wholesalers, it will not be hard for him to change his mind when he. reviews the ex act nature of a wide variety fo products sent out on the five daily deliveries this wholesale house maintains, and '.remembers, too, that even the city directory on his desk is a product of the Rodgers Paper company bindery.
