The department of agriculture moved today to ascertain the rea son for the recent violent fluctu ations of . the market prices of grains, particularly wheat. .. In announcement which express ed "concern over the situation. Secretary Jardine directed the gra'n futures administration to make an immediate investigation of conditions existing in grain fu tures exchanges. While plans for the Inquiry were developing at the depart ment it was apparent that for a time at least the investigation would be conducted from Wash ington and Chicago. J. W. T. Du- vel In charge of the grain futures administration since the retire ment of Chester Morrill last week is expected to take charge of the inquiry at Chicago where he has been head of the administration office.
