"Back to the Ions engagement," seems to have become a sort of slogan am ong the lovelorn of Britain. It would be hard to say how the change has come about but evi dence ' accumulates ' that long en gagements are again in fashion. Nov. 14. With foreign buyers apparently holding off as much ps possible an) with many speculative holders disposed to sell cut and realiie profits, wheat underwent a material net back in price today, especially during the last half hour. Very unfavorable crop reports from Ar gentina led to only a tempoary upturn, quotations' on wheat were weak. 1 7-8 to 3lic net 'lower. December $1.51 3-4 to $1.52 and May $1.58 5-8 to $1.5S 7-8. Corn finished 1 l-8c to 15-8 c ofr, oats 1 1-Sf 1 l-4c to 1 3-Sc down. and provision varying from 37c decline to 12c gain. Hardly 500.000 bushels of wheat appeared to hve been pur chased today for shipment to Europe, and there seemed to be a general disposition to assume that something of a'reaction In prices was to be looked for in view of the recent big advance. Early downturns in quotations however were soon more than overcome by receipt of private cables from Ar gentina pointing to a vitual crop failure in some sections of that country as a result of drought and other causes. Meanwhile steadi ness of the Liverpool wheat mar ket together with strength of ster ling exchange, helped also to rally prices here. Profit taking sales, which were urgently pressed after the Wheat market had risen about, one cent over yesterday's finish,, carried values down rather rapidly as the day approached an end. Corn and oats followed in the wake of wheat, rallying after an early decline, but then breaking again. Primary recelpits of corn totaled only about half as much as". was the case a year ago.
