The visitors have been loud in their praise. Yesterday four young men came here from. McPherson, Kansas. A visitor who has noted this in crease writes as follows : "Editor Statesman: - "I have been much im pressed in my short stay in Salem by the campaign car ried on by the First National bank. I was here three years ago and I want to say the city has been remade. The mer chants deserve no end of credit. Whether you people are j conscious of it or not, there has been'a great coop eration. The trade territory has been practically doubled and Salem is pulling from many directions. "The coming year will see better results if the f Salem merchants continue their har monious pulling, together. I give a major share of this to the Chamber of Commerce and the service clubs. 5 They are boosting f 6 Salem al waysbut in addition to this they are getting Salem busi ness j men acquainted . each with the other. "You have a great city here and I am proud of it. i "Sincerely, , J "A. SHERWIN." F. The other letter this week is along the same line i , "Editor Statesman: i ' "I understand there has been some criticism of the effort made to sell Salem to Salem people. This is very commendable in every way. It is not a criticism of the merchants. It is simply em phasizing the fact that the trade is here and it is the op portunity of their lives to go after it. The Salem mer chants have good : stores. They are taking larger trade on all the time and the peo ple are coming from; longer distances. Good market roads have a good deal to do with this but more is due to the spirit manifested by the Salem merchants in steadily pulling for trade and their way of handling trade when they get it. I have never lived in a place where there was such harmony as in Sa lem and I am glad to add my testimony to the fact that Salem business men are mak ing Salem famous. "I hope you will continue the good work in your Slogan issuq each Thursday and that these various organizations will not weary of welL doing r "Very sincerely, 'JAMES NEWHOUSE.' r , If in doubt of your Hemstitching, Try .
