Schenck presents Miss Talmadge in her latest Selz nick Revival, "The New Moon."'. A story of Russia Russia 'and its men, women and children cold Russia with: its people of warm hearts Russia where inner troubles are continually brooding and happiness is hard to find a human story of human people who love and hate, cry and laugh that is the story of "The New Moon." It is more like a beautiful fairy tale than anything else. It is so vividly, true that it smacks of un realism. , A beautiful Russian princess disguises herself as a peasant girl, while she seeks pro tection j from the anarchists who are trying to rule the town. When the women of the country afe or dered to register so as to be na tionalized, she, leads them to re volt. She opens their eyes to the true meaning of Russian nation alization. They will become the wives of any man who- wants them. Free love will govern the country. Marriage rites, will cease to exist. The authorities discover the true character of the peasant ! girl who is leading the women to revolt and attempt to force her to register. He fiance, frpm whom she was separated in her flight from the : castle, has joined the band of anarchists in tne nope of discovering the where abouts of his lost sweetheart. He sees her in the arms of his leader. who is trying to force her to reg ister, and believes the orst. Later, explanations follow, and, like all fairy stories, the good people are rewarded and the bad ones pun ished.: : ' : - The little bird who - whispered in our ear that Rupert of Hentzau was some picture, told no fairy tale, as t the- audience -who saw this brilliant photodrama at the Oregon theater last evening will Joyfully testify. V "Rupert: of Hentzau" will re main at the Oregon theater until Monday night. Photoplay fans at' the Grand theater last night found the mo tion picture different in "Pioneer Trails", a Vitagraph special pro duction. Here in a film of the early west was visualized in a dra matic manner that thrilled and pleased a delightful story of young love and youthful chivalry and daring. It is the kind of story that 'picture fans crave, and so seldom get. "Pioneer Trails" is a human in terest story, despite the fact that H goes back to the days of the great gold rush of 184 9 for its start, and is all the more colorful because of the pleasing atmos phere set by this period. t The story opens with a prologue of tremendous appeal, that of a young couple with th'eir boy set ting out for the unexplored recess es of the west in a prairie caravan Midway to their destination, the train' is attacked and the party1 with the ' exception of the young son killed off by Indians. This sequence is one of the most realis tic ever seen on the screen. It gives spectators a thrilling idea of what the early settlers were up against. , The boy is found by another group of pioneers , and is adopted by Mrs. ; Salter, who rears him as her son. Twenty years later finds GOOD 'I : GENUINS DLL" DURHAM TOBACCO t . V: 5 MATINEE TODAY 3O0L. the boy grown to manhood in a mountainous home. ' He risks his life to stop a runaway stage coach. This is a japlendld sceneof daring' and sends' a I real f'thrill shimmering up and down the spin. By this daring, Jack Plains meets Rose Miller and falls in love with her. Philip BJaney, her father's secretary, tries to force his attentions on the girl. Jack's foster-mother interferes and is shot down by Blaney. Rose flees in terror and i3 taken in by "Laun dry Lou," a loveable character. Jack'' is accused of the crime, but eludes the sheriff with the aid of "Easy Aaron" Cropsey itiner ant lawyer and roaefside philoso pher. After many complications. Jack manages to clear ' hsi name and win the girl he loves.
