Traffic should take the Mllwaukie street or Eighty second street routes on the East Side ouj " of Portland; paved to Oregon City; no detours. Oregon City-Can by: Paved. Salem - Albany: On account of pavement being laid from the end of South Commercial street, Salem, to a connection with the Pacific highway, it will be neces Eary for traffic to detour out of Salem via South Twelfth street for about six weeks. Through traffie should go east on Court or State streets to Twelfth street; from auto camp ground, go east on Oak street to Twelfth street. Gives 2 miles more pavement than previous detour and is a good rock or gravel road through out. The road between Salem and Albany, via Independence, is not desirable at this time as the county bridge just south of Brunk's corners is closed for re pairs, necessitating a long detour between Brunk's corners and In dependence over dusty road. Signs directing traffic have been erected by the county. Albany - Junction City: Either west or east side routes can be traveled; the east side route is considered the most desirable for through traffic as It is several miles shorter and has no dusty detours. East Side Route: Detour around grading operations between Al bany and Harrisburg!; detour starting at south city limits of .Albany to the right, following signs via the East Side Albany Corvailis road through Peoria to Harrisburg, crossing -the Willam ette river at that point by a pow er ferry. Good graveled road throughout. West Side Route: Good- from Albany to Corvallis, de touring out of Corvallis, as follows: West on Jefferson street, following the Philomath road to Mt. Union cem etery, thence south across Brown's bridge over Mary's river, thence south through? Oakridge to Bea ver 'creek, turning east four miles and rejoining the highway, about seven miles south of Corvallis, i following mala- highway through! Monroe to Junction City; new pavement from Monroe to Junc tion City. Junction City - Cottage Urove (through. Eugene): Paved rrom Junction City to Eugene and from there, paved to Goshen; highway closed at Goshen de touring east across the Willamette river through Cloverdale and coming back across the river about one miles south of. Creswell; thence to the old Pacific highway about two miles-south ,of Cresweii; graveled road from there to Walker; paved from Walker to Cottage Grove. ' Cottage Grove - Divide; pave ment begins one mile south oi Cottage Grove; no detowre. Divide - Oakland: At a point about two-miles south -of Divide, and also at a point approximately five miles north of Drain, owing to construction operations and no available detours, it is necessary that the road be closed except between the hourg or 5"j. m. and 7:30 a.; m.; a few minutes at 10 a. between 12 noon and 1 p. CO. m.; and lor about 10 minutes at 3 p. m. Pavement being tald south from Divide and south from Anlauf. Excellent macadam from Divide to a point 3.7 miles south of Yoncalla and from there it is paved to Oakland. Oakland - Sutherlin: pared. Sutherlin - Roseburg: Paving under way between SutherMn and Roseburg and necessary o ci03e the road except for a few minutes at 10 a. m.; 12 noon to 1 p. m. : a few minutes at 3 p. m.; ?nd be tween 6 p. m. and 8 a. m. Travel can detour via the -Davis bill route, turning off the h gbay at Sutlrerlin and returning at Wil bur. Roseburg - Myrtle Creek: paved. Myrtle Creek - Canyonvlll: Detour via Riddle; rough and slow. Canyonville - Galesville: good macadam. Galesville - Wolf Creek: About seven miles south of Galesville, traffic is be'njg detoured during working hours via Giendale to Stage Road pass; at Stage Kad pass, another short detour is nec ess ry. Wolf Creek - Grave Creek: Paved. Grave Creek - Grants Pass: Good macadam Grants Pass - through Medford and Ashland - California line: Paved. Columbia River Highway Astoria - Portland: Paved except-through Rainier. Portlands- Hood River: paved. Hood River - Mbsier: 5.3 miles paved;? balance good macadam. Mosler - The Dalles: Paviag op erations under wav; road closea from 8 a. ra. to 12:30 p. m. and from 1:30 p. m. to 5:30 p. ni Traffic can oetour over" Seven mil hill at all.hours; detour fair. The Dalles Heppner Junction: The new road is still closed, on account of rock cut at Cap Horn; take usnal road over hill; good gravel road between the Des chutes river and Heppner Junc tion ', Heppner" Junction, through Umatilla and Echoj to Pendleton: good graveled road throughout. West SMe Pacific Highway Portland - Newberg- PavedV traffic to points south or west of Dayton should take the Chehaleia. valley road from'Newperr to fayette or Yamhill. 1 ' New berg-Dundee Pavement open for local traffic. Amity-Holmes Gap Paved ex cept short graveled stretch near Holmes Gap. Holmes- Gap-Rlckreall- Under construction ; . open and passable but rough; Rlckreall-Monmouth' Paved. Monmouth-Corvallis Paved ex cept 7 miles. just south of Mon mouth which is closed to traffic. Traffic detoured' via Monmouth and Indenendence and Suver. Roosevelt Coast Highway Astoria-Seaside Paved or planked to Milea Crossing; Miles Crossing-Seaside-via Melville cut oft; paved 8 miles, balance part planked or graveled, part earth road In fair condition except after rains. Via Warrenton: under construction from Miles Crossing to Warrenton Cutoff; single track pavement open but subject to de lays; Warrenton cutoff via War renton to Columbia Beach, paved; detour via the ocean beach from Columbia Beach to Gearhart ex cept from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m the highway being under con struction and closed during the day; Gearhart to Seaside, single track pavement. Seaside-TUamook County Une Graveled and in good condition to Cannon Beach Junction; nar row single track graveled road from Cannon Junction to Tilla mook County line, new rocked road in fair condition. Tillamook County llne-Tilla-mook Rocked or graveled to Hobsonville, fair; newfy graveled between Hobsonville and River dale and old road Is better . going until new gravel is compacted; under construction and rough but passable between Riverdale and Wilson River; paved Wilson River to Tillamook. ' Tillamook-Beaver Paved to Pleasant Valley; under construc tion between Pleasant Valley and Hemlock, requiring use of old road which is graveled and fair; paved Wilson River to Tillamook. BeavervHebo Under construc tion and rough1 but. passable, v Hebo-CIoverdale Graveled and fair. Cloverdale-Neskowin Rough and narrow but passable. Southern Part of Coast Highway North Bend-Marshfleld Fair. Marshf leld - Bandon Seven Devils road fair; good via Coquil le also. - Bandon-California line Earth road in fair condition. Mt. Hood Loop Highway Portland - Sandy Paved to Gresham. take Bluff road, which is graveled and In good condition from. Gresham to Sandy. Sandy-Salmon River Under construction ; road not yet closed but through traffic to poinU east of Salmon River Is requested to take Marmot road, which will avoid bad sections of highway and probable delays at points of con struction. Tualatin Highway. Portland - Gaston: Paved en tire distanceand open for traffic except shon detour at Forest Grove city limits, account of re pair on bridge. Gaston -'Cove Orchard: Closed; detour via west side to Wapato lake. Cove Orchard - McMinnville: Paved entire distance except in town of Yamhill. McMinnville - Tillamook Highway McMinnviile - Sheridan: Paved. Sheridan - Willamina: Under construction and rough but pas sable. Willamina-Hebo: Good macad am to Tharp quarry; under con struction and rough but passable from Tharp quarry to Bently Junction; good macadam Bently Junction to Bee ranch; good ma cadam from Bee ranch to Alder creek, with some improvement work under way; macadam in goodveondition Alder Creek-Hebo. Hebo - Tillamook: Under con struction and rough to Beaver; paved Beaver to Hemlock; under construction Hemlock - Pleasant Valley, requiring use of old road which is graveled and fair; paved Pleasant Valley-Tillamook. Oorvalliap-Xewport Highway. Corvallis - Wren, through Phil omath: Good. Wren - Blodgett: Detour over (lellatly Hill. Blndeett-Newport: Under con struction but open at all hours; fair. Willamette YaJley - Florence , i Highway. Fair to Horton (over High Pass road); rocked and in fair condition from Horton to Blachly. (Low pass closed account of con struction.) Roseburg - Coos Bay Highway. Coos Bay agon road now in fair condition; also open via Drain and Allegany, . but rough and slow. Medford - Crater Lake Highway. ; Traffic advised to take route via Central Point, Bybee bridge, Trail and McLeod; road via Eagle Point, Reese Creek school house. Derby road and McLeod, also traveled. Tent houses have been erected at the lake and , accom modations are ample. Care should be taken between Alsea and Waldport as this is generally a one-way road and unsurfared? The Dalles-California Hlglmay The Dalles-Madras Road fair through Dufur, Maupln. Bake oven or Criterion, Antelope to Madras. Madras-Bend New macadam or gravel in good condition. Bend-Allen's Ranch (20 miles) Macadamized. Allen's Ranch-Sand Creek Rough and dusty. Sand Creek-Klamath Agency Good lo fish hatchery and from there rough and full of rocks. Klamath Agency-Lamia's Mill Good dirt road. Lamm's Mill-Barclay Springs -Newly graded but nol yet sur faced; quite rough. Barclay Springs-Klamath Falls Newly macadamized. Klamath Falls-Caltfornia State, Line Macadamized to Merrill; balance good dirt road. a John Pny Highway Arlington-Condon Road by Shutler and Olex badly rutted and dusty; better road via Rock Creek, Mikalo and Clem. Condon-Fossil Fair except C miles between 30-mile and May ville; still necessary to use old road; highway under construc tion. Fossil-Spray Macadam under way between Fossil and Butte Creek Summit but road open;, un improved from Summit to Tilley's (mouth of Sarvice creek) and quite rough; fair, Tilley's-Spray. Spray-Dayville Highway still closed on account bridge construc tion. To 'get to Dayvllle, John Day, Canyon City or Prairie City, It is necessary to go via Monu ment, Long Creek and Mt. Vernon or via Mitchell from Tfliey's. The latter road la much better and traffic is advised to travel that route; new road open about Sep tember 15. Dayville-Pralri? City Good condition; last 20 miles graveled. Prairie City-Ironside Good county road. Ironside-Vale Main road In fair condition but slow traveling through, loose gravel; traffic can detour through apple orchards be tween Jamieson and Lancaster 9M & IsslSiar- li T Immmmm and avoid loose gravel; macadam, Brogan-Vale.. Vale-Ontario rough; no de tours. Ontario-Nyssa Rough and dusty. Old Oregon Trail Pendleton-La Grande Rough for f'rst 6 miles: good gravel for ? miles; balance rough ' county icau to Rilard; under construc tion, Hilgard-La Grande, requir ing careful driving;- watch for signs. La Grande-Baker Paved or macadamized to Hot Lake, detour ing along foothill road through Union or turn east across valley at a point 2.1 miles east of the sani tarium. (Valley, road closed from 6 a. m. to 11 a. m.rfind from 12 noon to 5 p. m.), macadam under struction. Union - North Powder and no detour is available except through Ladd canyon turn south at a point 4 miles oat of La Grande; detour fair; North Powder-Baker, good. Baker-Huntington Fair to Nelson; under construction, Nelson-Huntington; detours from Nelson school house to Weatherby and from Lime to the overhead are good; new grade-rough and rock in places. Huntlngton-Ontarlo (via Olds Ferry) First 7 miles rough; roads fair after crossing ferry; under construction, ,Welser-On-tario; keep on Idaho side.
