Wert i -rYall Street. Kew York. Dee. 11. Today's markets paid eery little attention to the outside news. That it did not show in the price movements ' of the day was rather surprising. The unfa vorable reports - from . Ijeadon were ignored, especially in th quarter where they mislit nave Been moat, expected to count, that is. ' in the foreign exchanges. Sterling made a new high, crossing $4.68. at which figure it waa within 28 cents a pound of the pre-war park ty. French exchaus went higher and so did Italian lire, while Genua marks maintained tbe same inunobilWr that had characterized them for the tost month or more. British Sonds, Up Along with the strength in the exchanges. United Kingdom of Great Britain bonds reached their top placee of tbe year and French and Belgian bonds were steady. The only possi ble inference was that despite the rejection of Germany's latest reparationa offer and the ' reported disagreement between French and English representatiTfs. tbe market . waa still hopeful that some good would come out of the conference after all. United Statea government bonda were strong agam. The day was not an important one either in stock market. At times there were signs of profit-taking by the followers of last week's advance. This brought about losses of a point or so in the leaders of the oil, industrial and mtor groups. Railway shares, some of them at least, were inclined to be heavy, bat there were many points of individual strength and these stood out mora conspicllous'; than did symptom of reaction. ' New England Fuel was driren down close to 50. while Cities Serrice common con tinued to be actively sold. Simms Petroleum remained the active leader of the independent oils, reaching a new high for the year In the early trading, but subsequently reacting. Soma Industrials Gain "there was very little fresh incident in connection with the buying of industrial stocks Wall street talked of a large stock dividend as the reason for tbe jump in National Lead, and it discussed improved trade conditions and the likelihood oft the resumption ef divi dends as the moves' oeck of tbe buying in In dustrial Alcohol. Tbe idea of an extra dividend entered into the upturn of Cons Products. The strength of the can shares and the zinc stocks filled in with what the market has known for some time regarding conditions . in these two issues. Shares of eompaniea doing their main busi ness with the farmers, the Chemical, the Fertlizer and mail order companies, were in demand.
