' practically speaking; the entire town . ha . zone ' on : record in recom mendation of the reappointment of . Bernard Zi. Hageman, the present poet- master, and the high man in the rating given applicants for the position. . Hageman was appointed to the post- maserahlp eight years ago, his term expiring on January 24 last. His serv ices have been eminently satisfactory to the business community and general patrons of the office during all of that time, as is evidenced by the very general support given, him through universally signed recommndationa for warded to Washington urging hi re tentlon in the office., v-. . ... Some time after Hageman' term ex pired, notice was given that one of the "revised" examinations would be held preliminary to the selection of a 'postmaster for the ensuing term. There were but three applicants for the Job, Hageman, John "Townsley, one of the mail carriers of MUwaukie, and F. W. Belt,' who runs a chicken ranch and raises pigeons near Milwaukee. After the agents of .the department had made their investigations they re ported Hageman stood at the top of the list with 91 points in his favor. Bell , was far behind with JOa, while Towns vleywas third. -xfi.. In" spite of hlsShlgh rating and de- ' sire of the patrons of the office, Hage Oman's appointment has been held up by Hawley.
