L'nuaUy at this time of the season the Pacific Northwest purchases some butter from the South. but it now looks as ft the South will buy here . Similar trend of prices is indicated ajraln for flour, although some of the millers are holding bark and do not want to force values too high. . Cohen Wheat market price fluctuatiorj are to be expected within the next few weeks, as crop advices are received from various parts of the worm. There was weaanees at tbe ;mcao ution opening and thia created a dull tone in the demand here, but little chance was shown n the home cash situation. Later with a sharp rve in ( liicixo the local market advanced. Demand appears to be confined to the choice milling wheats such as Blueatem, Baart and Marquis, which are suitable for patent flour, and for hanj winter and northern spring for Mid-West and Eastern shipment and for white club for export milling trade. while there is a fair movement started on hard winter wheat to the big milling centers of the Mid-West, the call is as yet not very elabo rate and the trade should not be swept off Its fe.t. There smieirs no doubt tiist further lib eral stocks will be wanted by Minneapolis and ther centers for mixing but the movement will depend upon the height of the Eastern mar kets. Holder, here are less inclraeu to sen when the anarket drops below what they have been hoping for. Purchases of club wheat continue to be sbown round $1.16 &1 IS per bushel, basis tidewater drlirerv with miilins buYine iiehL Millstufis are extremely short. home of tne mills hare none to offer. No price change is renorreri as vet hnt the situation is very firm. Another effort is being made to torce a -uc rise in flour. P.roomhall cabled: North Africa It is feared that the acreage to a iica t this year will be reduced as the win ter weather haa proved to be below normal. Ir-dia Reports of good, wide spread rains are continued and prospecw for the growing crops are now very favorable. The scarcity of foodstuff which has prevailed in some districts U now less acute, and conditions are becoming normal. The acieage to wheat is expected to be 25 per cent laigcr than normal. Official report states beneficial conditions of last week axe maintained and prosoecu are much improved. Australia Receipt. of new wheat continue satisfactory and chartering of yesaels is in fair denund. Japan is an active buyer, as prices here sre underselling Canadian varieties. Our agent reckons the outturn of the new crop win prove smaller than the official estimate which nas published last month and in his opinion the two state of South Australia and ISew sooth Wales will show a total decrease of 23,000,000 bushel compared with last season's figures. The conference rate which stood until this morning, was J18 on parcels and $17 on lull cargoes. Coupled with the an nouncement of the crash in the confer ence rate comes the statement that Charles R. HcCormick had closed con tracts for New York, delivery of large shipments that will run better than 30,000,000 feet a month for several months. Heavy demand for lumber at Cali fornia ports haa added to the steam schooner fleet now engaged in the coast wise business. Sudden & Christiansen, who recently placed the steamer Edna in the freight business between Portland and San Francisco, announce the addi tion of the Santa Alicia. Santa Barbara, Carmel and Yellowstone. This fleet will load in the river and make San Fran cisco only until the lumber shortage has been made up. Steamers of the McCormick fleet have been going principally to San Pedro and loading largely on Grays Harbor. The Multnomah is loading this trip at St, Helens and will sail tomorrow afternoon. The lumber demand on the West coast is better and the steamship Derblay of the General Steamship corporation, due lri Portland tomorrow, will leave here with a heavy shipment for the West Coast. Oriental shipments are holding big but , the advance in the price of lumber and the unsettled conditions in Japan have cut down on future orders. For Australia by J. J. Moore & Co., and Balfour, Guthrie A Co., the steam ship West Henshaw of the General Steamship corporation. cleared this morning with part cargo! She had on board at Portland 1.331,312 feet of lum ber valued at $33,158.86, 100,000 bundles of lath valued at $307.50. She also car ried 50 bags of phosphate rock valued at $300. (!. W. aaac.)
