The cotton market opened firm today, although March con tract were much lower, selling at. a new low record for the season under fairly heavy long liquidation and switching prior to the first of March notice on Wednesday. Later months showed gains of 4 to 22 points by Liverpool buying and covering by shorts. Southern wire houses and sxt concerns were again sellers, but the tone remained steady to firm for the early trading with demand' broadening. Liverpool cables were about as expected. The market u quiet in the afternoon with March contracts in Bupply. The close was barely steady at a net decline of 5 points to an advance of 4 point. Furnished by Overbeck A Cooke Co.. ' Other years at this time apples were almost twice as high as this season. Good quality eating apples should retail for $1.50 up, ' while cookers should be even lens. This is the first time in three Qr four years that the price has been so low. Larger varieties are inclined to be scarce and a little higher in price. Medium Rises are plentiful and cheap.
