THE OREGON I SUNDAY JOURNAL, PORTLAND, SUNDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 21; 1920. PITY POOR PUP! SHE MAY GOTO IE mm MAKER Anyway, in Meantime, Little Fel " low Is Making Things Hum About City HalJ; Finds Friend. The city hall is in a bad way to become totally demoralized as a re sult of the advent of Miss Muni Cipal in the city's capitol Friday afternoon. Miss Muni Clpal is a lit tle black puppy Just dog about three months; old, 18 Inches long and ranging from eight to 11 inches in circumference, depending upon which department stuffed her with eats last. ' " During the downpour early Friday afternoon Miss Muni arrived at the city hall entrance just as Mayor Baker was entering. She gave him one of those "say have a heart" glimpses which pups that age know so well how to register. The mayor "fell for it," invited the foundling into the building and then the trouble started. Just to show her heartfelt "apprecir ation of the mayor's benign philan thropy. Miss Muni followed him into -the council chamber, where the police investigation was in progress, and pro ceeded to challenge the various wltr nesses lo a game of tag by the cus tomary nagging at their trouser legs. PCF COMES BACK Commissioners Mann and Eleelow and City Auditor Funk were listening - in on the police hearing-, but with others accepted the pup's challenge and en tered into the game with enthusiasm until Sergeant-at-arms Lewis heartlessly trundled the youthful canine out Into the ante room." Thrice did the sergeant-at-arms put Miss Muni out and thrice did she sneak between the legs of Involun tary protectors. The s. a. a. gave up, until Attorney Pat Ryan in the defense of , Officers RuBsell and Huntington had Just assumed a mosf striking and alto- - gether oratorical . pose and had Just 'I thought of a most impressive quotation I from Blackstone with which he pur 1 posed to knock both "Mayor Baker and Assistant City Attorney Myers dead jwhen Miss Muni Clpal got her tail " caught in the swinging doors 1 . Miss Muni had the floor. Officer Lewis : blurted an apology to the mayor and,. gathering up the Infantile canine, dashed madly across the city hall, headed for the street. FARBISH TO RESCUE City Healpi Officer Parrish here In terfered, rescued the offending visitor and turned her pupship over to the health department for protection and nourishment Miss Muni Clpal was nourishment Miss Muni Cipal was thereafter gained physical proportions which suggested, an urgent call for a splrella, or whatever it is the ladies use to conceal the extent of their physiques. - Friday night Miss Muni kept the watchman busy entertaining her, and Saturday morning the various depart ments In the city hall took turn about hunting misplaced overshoes, coats, note books ad infinitum with which the young hopeful, who has condescended to adopt the city hall as her home. and the human element therein as her family, amused herself during the night. All Saturday forenoon Miss Muni had dominated every activity In the city's capitoL De partment heads ' are threatening dire calamity scheduled to befall the of fending pup. Following a conference of Chief ' Janitor Simmons, Sergeant-at-arms Lewis, the city hall patrolmen et at, Saturday forenoon it was unanimously voted by those worthies that Miss Muni would have to seek another home but the array of protesting femininity from every department in the city hall, and the cold-steel glint in9 many department heads' eyes, has deferred ouster pro ceedings indefinitely. veloping. I PRIZE MASK BALL THANKSGIVING NIGHT Expenses , of U.'s Homecoming Tete Surprisingly Low University of Oregon, Eugene, Nor. 20. A survey of home-commg week-end activities shows the surprising low cost which "everything was carried on with. The frosh bonfire cost only about ISO, while $250 might have been used If nec essary, according to Walter Holman of Portland, who was In charge. The low expense was due to the fact that the boys of the class worked free of charge and procured much material without cost, Trucks to haul the larger pieces of wood used were practically the enly cause for expense. The oil used was refuse from garages. I The campus luncheon, at which sev eral thousand were fed, only cost $350, according to Ruth Flegel, who was gen eral chairman of the luncheon commit tee. The money was raised by a tax on the students. The committees working with Miss Flegel consisted of: Properties, Elinor Coleman ; food, . Emma ; Garbade and Florence Furuset ; serving, Wanda Dag gett ; arrangement of tables, Glenn Frank; cleaning up, Alice Curtis. Work ing with these girls were committees headed by the members of the general committee. Mrs. Edna P. Datson. bouse director of Hendricks and Friendly halls, is re ceiving much praise for the assistance given the committee. Through her kind ness in allowing the use of the: Friendly hall kitchen, hot, fresh coffee was served. Had Stocking Bank Attleboro, Masa, Nov. 20. (L N. S.) Arthur Rushton of Howard, R.
