During the downpour early Friday

city hall entrance just as Mayor Baker
was entering. She gave him one of
those "say have a heart" glimpses
which pups that age know so well how
to register. The mayor "fell for it,"
invited the foundling into the building
and then the trouble started.
Just to show her heartfelt "apprecir

investigation was in progress, and pro

Ontario Farmers
Will Produce New
Feed for Cattle
Ontario, On, Nov. 20.--The farmers in
this vicinity have completed an organi
zation and plans for grinding alfalfa
into meal for ' itock feed, and' will
begin operations In a few days with a
mill that will grind 30 tons per day.
This meat will be mixed with grain
and molasses, the result being a feed
unexcelled as a "finisher" in fattening
stock. The farmers are doing this as
a protection against a j lack-, of market
for hay in the stackj and they say
they can realize a better price for hay
by converting it into meaL The mill

Surprisingly Low
University of Oregon, Eugene, Nor.
20. A survey of home-commg week-end
activities shows the surprising low cost
which "everything was carried on with.
The frosh bonfire cost only about ISO,
while $250 might have been used If nec
essary, according to Walter Holman of
Portland, who was In charge. The low
expense was due to the fact that the
boys of the class worked free of charge
and procured much material without
cost, Trucks to haul the larger pieces
of wood used were practically the enly
cause for expense. The oil used was
refuse from garages. I
The campus luncheon, at which sev
eral thousand were fed, only cost $350,
according to Ruth Flegel, who was gen
eral chairman of the luncheon commit
tee. The money was raised by a tax
on the students.
The committees working with Miss
Flegel consisted of: Properties, Elinor
Coleman ; food, . Emma ; Garbade and
Florence Furuset ; serving, Wanda Dag
gett ; arrangement of tables, Glenn
Frank; cleaning up, Alice Curtis. Work
ing with these girls were committees
headed by the members of the general
committee.
Mrs. Edna P. Datson. bouse director
of Hendricks and Friendly halls, is re
ceiving much praise for the assistance
given the committee. Through her kind
ness in allowing the use of the: Friendly
hall kitchen, hot, fresh coffee was
served.
