Cohea The low price of prunes at this time should cause consumers to stock up rather heavily as soon as the new crop offerings are generally available. Only limited stocks of fhe new crop have as yet reached the market and most of the retailers stiff retain liberal stocks for which they paid high prices last sea son. Naturally these cannot be sold at low values without a loss. Much complaint has been made by some retailers regarding the statement made that they are asking too great a profit on buttert Many are willing to allow the consumer a square deal, but there are others who are holding prices practically at the high point despite the recent arops in the wholesale price. From personal interview find they are mora strongly la favor of holding their wheat for high er prices, aa they do not believe in the recent decline. Believe when price reach 82 in the country there will be a fair movement, but a large percentage will then hold for 12.50 or more. The Allen-Capper investigation baa caused s better feeling in ' the country and aa a result cash wheat is selling freely tonight at 10c over yeetatiiay. Flour buyer ar more interested, but wheat cannot be bought at a price in line with flour offer received THE ROBINSON MILLING CO. Oct 21. (I. N. S.) Al though there waa no wide movements In any of the important stocks during the early dealings on the stock market to day, the tone was strong and there was a gtneral disposition to buy at the levels established dtfring the past few days. Offerings were extremely scant, how ever, and It was apparent that there Is no opportunity to accumulate any sub stantial line of stocks around current positions. On account of this, those con cerned on the long side were disposed to proceed in a quiet manner- for a time, some of them believing it most advisable to wait for the publication of the first railroad earnings for the month of Sep tember. Most of the fractional changes that took place were to higher prices. Steel ; stocks and some of the railroad Issues were in demand at alight gains. Pittsburg Coal made the greatest gain in the industrials, advancing 2 points to 69. The strongest stock in the rail road list was St. Louis Southwestern preferred, which rose 2 to 444. The market waa "firm throughout the forenoon with trading on a very small scale. Most of the leading Issues held around the initial high levels. Steel common crossed 89 and Baldwin sold up to 1154. All of the public utilities were in good demand at advancing prices. The 8L Liouis Southwestern issues featured the railway group, the common moving up over f point to !, while the preferred rose 2 points to 48. The market suffered a sharp break In the early afternoon, following publication of th London diapatch, saying the railway man had ordered a general strike in sympathy with the miners, un less the government settled the strike by Sundsy.
