No chanare In prices was Indicated for the day. - j "" , " -;;v. '-. There was' not disposition tmonf the trade to make any change whatever prices for -the day. Supply In general was about equal to the current demand and as cubes . showed a rood movement around the values quoted, prints were likewise stationary. PUty cents appears to be about the extreme top for cube extras at this time, although It may still be possible to ob tain the other half eent quoted nominal ly of late. Some complaints are made ty rereiffers that they are unable to. se cure 50r for their extras, but the trouble appears to be more because their stock is realty not In the extra class, than any lack of demand at the price named. Most of the cubes now arriving are not really extras. ...... Bxcess moisture cubes are finding scant sales theses days and buyers are vary about : taking hold at any price. That the damage-to trees in the district wiH amount to about 10 per cent aa s whole there ia not the slightest doubt. This per eent has been actually killad as a result of the sa tense cold last winter. . , Some of the trees that fjluaaniind 'extensively this season are today dead, not having suf ficient strength to go through the season. Other trees that blossomed annear dead at this toe, but experts ssy that they have merely girea s bad setback and that with proper this season much eaa be saved. - - . While it is unpoasfble at this early date to state with any degree of. certainty what the output of apples will be at Hood River this season, ! there ia hUls doubt just sow but that the crop will be below that of s year ago. Even with the new area which comes ante bearing this season, it b not likely that the Hood River district win in 1920 hate a crop of over 70 per cent of "a year .ago, and wen known men estimate a still greater While meat of the damage add toes ia con fined to the low land orchards, there ia consid erable Ions even is tha higher altitudes. How ever one well known authority estimated that with the new area in bearing, tha production of the upper valley will range from 100 to 126 per cent of last rear's crop. Tork, t June " 1. Tho Credit ClearlnsT House tabulation of mer chandise transactions between the wholesaler and retailer during the past week shows, a general falling off In purchases except In the. mid dle agricultural section. The price cutting: movement which Is in process at thia time is much less ac tive in the middle agricultural section than any other, and - consequently bet ter purchase activity is found. In the other sections .merchants will probably try to replace the stoclc sold at reduced prices, and will probably not be as ready - buyers as in - ths corresponding: periods of the last two years. Indebtedness shows an Increase, .but not an alarming one. for payments are still averaging good. 4 '. !- Many complaints hare been heard from the . wholesavler. about bad pay ments,, but- when sifted down closely. It is found, that ths payments . are little less active than In corresponding years. Almost all complaints i are found to be caused by slowness on the part of merchants In large cities, and the mer chant in the small town la still holding up to' the high plane of the past year.
