IANGNUI BETTER FARMING . sJ. iOREGON DAIRYMEN CONSIDERING FUN Fl ' Members of the Oregon Dairy tnen's league mar spend $500,000 or more under a plan of reorganiza tion by Aaron Sapiro of Ban Fran Cisco. The league hat at present nearly 2S00 members selling fresh milk In Portland and to creameries, condentarles and cheese factories within the 40 mile tadlus. Under the present system, the Ore gon Dairymen' league acta aa an agent for the distribution of milk. The association seta the price at which milk shall be sold to the Portland dis tributors, to condensarles and others. The new Dairymen's league. If or ganised, will adopt the plan of the Ore gon Fruitgrowers' association and the Washington and Idaho wheat men. ' Twenty-ee-ven local meetings have been held In various districts surround ing Portland, at which the proposed plan of reorganisation has been unanimously Indorsed; At a meeting held at Klllsboro Sat urday, over 300 dairymen present pledged themselves to support the or ganisation under the new plan, and 12 signed contracts agreeing to market all their milk through the new association for a period of BV4 years. Power Is given to the new Oregon Dairymen's Cooperative league to own and operate condensarles, butter mak ing factories, creameries, cheese making .plants and merchandise and advertise milk and the by-products of milk. In addressing the dairymen. Aaron I Baplro threw some sidelights upon the I Oregon cooperative system which is of interest to Oregon farmers. Saplro said that the Oregon coopera 1 tlve law drawn up by Hector McPher I son, professor of economics of the Ore ; gon Agricultural college, Is the best oo- i operative law In the United States, and ,that California Would probably adopt a great 'many of the ejaufles contained In the Oregon law. He also stated that the Oregon Dairymen's league is the only dairymen's association in the country which has the real confidence Of the consuming public. The new cooperative league will be controlled by a board of 25 directors, and the main office of the association will be In Portland. The association will be non-profit and without capital stock. Membership In the association will be 110. Every member will have one vote. , The association Is given power to or ganize a subsidiary Corporation to build or buy or otherwise operate central dis tributing plants in Fertland, and the condehsaHes and creameries and other plants at the point of production. The contract offered the dairymen Is provisional upon the signing up of not less than 75 per cent of all present members of the Oregon Dairymen's league. The plan has the general approval of the officers of the league, who state that they expect to have no difficulty ; whatsoever In reorganising under the new plan. It Is anticipated that the absorption of surplus milk by the league in its 1 own plants will materially help to in ' crease the price to the producer without I putting an inoreased burden upon the 1 consumer. Several meetings are scheduled dur ing the coming week, at which Aaron , Saplro. counsel In chief to the associa tion, under its new marketing plan, will be the chief Speaker. t , . ,i farmers Are Using Farm Record Books Albany, March 13. Such a visit enables the grower to get Into personal touch with the distributors, to select a reliable representative, to learn the difficulties under which the car-lot receiver labors, and to appreciate the problems with which he is constantly confronted. KEEP CALF FAILS CLEAX The farmer who uses the swill pail for feeding calves oi who hangs the pall on a post between feedings - without washing it will soon be looking for a cure for calf scours. The dirty calf pail Is one of the chief causes of scours. WHh warm weather soon coming on extra precautions must be taken In car ing for the calf palls. The- same aa the milk buckets after each milking the calf pall should be Washed thoroughly after each feeding and sterilised either with -steam, or scalding water. If the palls are so handled and then inverted in a clean protected place until time to use them again this factor as a cause of Bcours will be eliminated.
