ONION TRADE WILL WAKE FOREIGN DEMAND IN BUTTER TRADE Both the Atlantic and Pacific Coast Markets Feel Effects or outside Call; All Qualities Are Showing Demand. OKDIITABT BCTTE2 CHA5GES Owing to the competition of oleomar garine, there wu a sadden lark of rail for ordinary quality batter late In the day. Mtoraae stork has been weak all season and shows no Improvement. Fresh extras continue wanted. At San Francisco butter was off He f niins the day and a similar loss was Shown at Chicago while Sew York 1 changed. It was reported In the trade that the Jlelglnm government had purchased (bout HOfl rubes of batter from California Interests but the rate of exchange being gainst shipment, IT was derided to re fell the sapplles on the open market. This Is the canse of the lower range After the recent showing of strength. Tht great strength In the butter trade here and alsewhere Is likely to force a lilgher price in the local trade soon, although leading creamery Interests are bitterly opposed to such a movement of value. It develops that much of the sttrength both on the Pacific coast and on tie Atlantic, is due to foreign busi ness. dually St this time o' r.rte nn, California output of hu'trr in so hbersl tjiat it raties : a saneral downfall of roast value.. Now Cali fornla Is the strongest market of the cosst and carload lots of butter continue to roll Irom ins I'aclflc North wnt In that, direction. Eastern markets are showing a aimllar condi tion and this Is keeping the entire country cleaned r- That tha demand for butter la nnlversal la Indicated by ths fact that anr sort of quality Is today finding s demand from various points st astablished values. CHEAP APPLES ARE IX DEMATf D 'heap grade apples are showrng a very good demand here since most Of the offerings were Sold to a Willamette valley canner. There is but little rail from outside points; most of the ShirnifDU consisting of old orders. rOTATOES QTIKTER IX COUNTRY Potatoes are ruling extremely quiet at Wil lamette valley points so far an carload purchases re concerned California Interests are buying a small amount, but this la scarcely sufficient to consider. 0R4XOF. MARKET KEF. NTT STHOXG The moment that the Calaifornla growers put on a campaign to get the public to eat oranges I By inaugurating an orange week, just that moment do they begin to advance their quota tions. This is hurting the demand. JtRIEF NOTES OF PROnrCE TRADE Sacked ypgetahles slightly easier In price. Country killed meats about steady at former prices. Chicken trade is quiet, but steady la price. Cohen An effort will be made to establish In Oregon a. plant for the making of dried milk. Dried milk promises to do to the canned milk market what the latter haa done to the fresh milk trade. The milk of the future wlll.b deliv ered perhaps once a month and the consumer will be able to secure the dried product on a cheaper basis than the fresh stock because of the much lower cost of delivery and expense of handling. The costly deliveries of fresh milk of today will give way to deliveries In bulk. There will be no bottles to break with resulting expense to all concerned and the household will not be compelled to go milkless because the milkman was late In arriving or someone had appro priated the supplies to themselves. The dried milk will need only the Introduc tion of water to make It exactly the same as the fresh stock and in most places of this section there is plenty of water. HatassalawasrkUM that csabs WRITE TODAY. 153B5outhLaSalleSt., Chicago SHOWN N STOCKS ONION TRADE IS DEMORALIZED HERE But Scant Amount Remains but No Call for Shipping Is Shown Now; $1 Bring Offered by Local Traders. Complete demoralisation la shown In the onion trade, although some day the trade here will awaken to the fact that there are few onions available. Then look for some flreworka In values. At this time It is practically impossible to secure orders for onions in carload lota. Only perhaps 30 or 85 cars remain unsold In the entire state. This is a mere drop In the bucket as compared with whst the usual demand would call for during the period remaining before the next crop is available for the market. Thirty-trie cars Is believed a maximum esti mate of the boldlngss)of onions in this state at the moment. It is not believed that there can possibly be more Uian 25 cars of these supplies shipped. There has been more or less loss in resorting and this will cut down the total stock available. While some of this stock can be sold at low prices for immediate consumption, the general trade now has so much of this class of goods that it is not willing to take on additional burdens. Best price availshle for carload lots of onions to the grower at this time is $4 per cental, a drop of 50c from recent quotations and 81 be low what the Confederated association had been asking. Borne growers are unwilling to accept this price and are holding. If they hare the good keeping quality tliey might win out, Bales of "onions along the street are being made from $3 to $5 per cental in a small wav. With the pres.ent exchange situation and the lack of suitable shipping facilities along the Pacific coast, wheat growers of the Pacific North west would be the chief sufferers should the activities of the Grain corporation be cut off. There is a complete stoppage of business in the entire trade at Pacific Northwest points and no recoveries are possible until the foreign situ ation as well as the domestic atmosphere clears.
