SINERS ALREADY HAVE THEIR EYES CAST ON PORTLAND 27 Temples File Applications for Hotel Accommodations During Convention Next June. INTEREST IS NATION-WIDE Estimate Now Says 100,000 Masons Will Be in Rose City to Participate in Gathering. With 27 temples of the Mystic Shrine already filing applications with the' general committee for hotel accommodations here In June of next year, It 1h declared that Portland has already established a record in the Imperial councir. It is said that no other :ity ever received such a num ber of applications for quarters nine months in advance of the date for holding the biggest show that Amer ica put on for the entertainment of Masons of high degree. The fact that these applications for hotel spare are coming so rapidly is taken as an indication that Portland will next year break all records for attend ance at Imperial council meetings, and that the parades will contain more brilliantly uniformed todies -of ' march ing men than ever before appeared any where In this country. Every one of them Is to bring a band, and Some of .them will have two or ibree. MAST APPLICATIONS COMB Chairman J. 1 Jatger of the hotel and housing committee Is in receipt of applications for space from the temples "at Dallas, Texas ; Buffalo, N. Y. ; Kan sas City, Helena. Detroit, - New York, Duluth. Regina, Sioux City. Tulsa, Kast St. Louis. I'eoria, Pittsburg. Rochester, Austin, Columbus. Reading, Houston, St. liouis, Omaha, Springfield. Mo., and Springfield. 111. : Calgary, Reno, Shreve- I port and Pes Moines. Beside these, there will be 456 Pull-! man carls parked in the area that is to be set aside for the visitors in a quiet section of the city, arid there are yet fully 100 temples to be heard from. Each templu that has sent in requests '.or hotel space is bringing from 100 to ViO persons, while Tacoma has taken :he entire space in the Oregon hotel and aill have 1500 nobles hece for the week. The first thing I did after arriving at home was to go over to the Gasco building and double my subscription. On the previous day a special Session of the Scottish Rite will confer the degrees on candidates to get them ready for the Shrine class. Forest Grove Will Hold Mass Meeting For Baby Benefit A mass meeting will be held Tuesday night at Forest Grove in behalf of the abandoned babies of the - nursery con ducted by the Pacific Coast Rescue and Protective society. Guy F. Phelps, re cently back from service overseas, will give an address In the First Methodist church. Phelps is engaged In social service work now and will tell what the rescue society is doing for the babies. This la one of a series of many meetings that are being held throughout , the state. Several substantial donations were added to the fund last week. The head quarters are in the Liberty Temple and W. G. MacLaren is superintendent of the work. A large percentage of the work Is done as a free will , gift to the cause. Edith Knight Hill has given her services far September publicity work. Mrs. R- E. Bondurant, the president of the nursery. Mrs. W. D. Mc Waters, Mra. W. Jj.
