The Romanoffs, former reigning family of Russia, are under the darkest cloud in France. The republic haa de creed that none of tlfe old-time grand dukes of Russia, who used to lead the pre-war gaitles of Montmarte, may re turn to, France except to live in the strictest seclusion. Those who want to live in Paris or at DeauviHe or on the Rlverla must first satisfy the French authorities that they Intend to lead quiet lives. . Already one of their number, Grand Duke Boris, son of Grand Duke Vladi mir and nephew of the ex-czar, has been expelled from French soil. Dis regarding the French ban, he came to Paris .with forged passes and was ac companied by a woman. Had he been content to hide himself incognito in some quiet . corn r of the country the complacent authorities probably would have left ! him in peace. But Boris could not forget that in 1913 he was the lion of the JNjrand Saison" at Deauville and that during the ensuing winter he ' was prince of all the Mont marte . fetes.
