ARRANGE MUSICAL PROGRAMS Collections Are to Be Taken for Orphans in Bible Lands; Song ' Services Are Announced. . "Glory to God in the highest ; peace on earth, good will to men." This glad song, sung first by the angels over Bethlehem, will be sung throughout the world this Christmas tide as it prob ably never has been sung before. . . 1 . The voices of merry children and the glad chimes of church bells are to be heard in nearly .all Portland's churches during the coming week: as tney pay nomage in glad song and prayer to the Christ As Christ gave his life in the hope 01 sav ing the world, so the children of Amer ica Intend to give of their money this year to a fund which is to be used to help save the lives of starving orphans in Bible lands. .The offering la to be taken during the Christmas season, which may last until the first Sunday in January. Last year Oregon children gave $5589.07 to the re ' lief cause. The five leading counties and their amounts for last year are: Multnomah, $1234.46; Marlon, $839.96; Yamhill, $400.15 ; Umatilla. $312.56, and Lane, $257.30. Special Christmas programs have been ) arranged for some night during' the " coming week in nearly all Presbyterian churches in the city. Many musical dl rectors have also arranged special musi cal services for Sunday. - First Presbyterian ' The Christmas season will be cele brated 8unday by special music at both services at the First Presbyterian church. Owing to the epidemic, the church has decided not to have a Christmas enter tainment this year. St. Davids The last in a series of Advent sermons will be preached Sunday morning at St. Davids Episcopal church by Rev. Thomas Jenkins. At 7:30 p. m., the rector will conduct a service in preparation for the Christmas festival. L.L. D., will dedicate the Garden Home Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. An elaborate program has been prepared by the pastor, Rev. A. B. Calder. The building is of frame con struction and is valued at $4000. The organ was presented by Dr. H. Peterson of Portland. In the evening at 7 :30 o'clock, Dr. W. W.
