song, sung first by the angels over
Bethlehem, will be sung throughout the
world this Christmas tide as it prob
ably never has been sung before.

year to a fund which is to be used to
help save the lives of starving orphans
in Bible lands.
.The offering la to be taken during the
Christmas season, which may last until
the first Sunday in January. Last year
Oregon children gave $5589.07 to the re
' lief cause. The five leading counties
and their amounts for last year are:
Multnomah, $1234.46; Marlon, $839.96;
Yamhill, $400.15 ; Umatilla. $312.56, and
Lane, $257.30.
Special Christmas programs have been
) arranged for some night during' the
" coming week in nearly all Presbyterian
churches in the city. Many musical dl
rectors have also arranged special musi
cal services for Sunday.
- First Presbyterian
' The Christmas season will be cele
brated 8unday by special music at both
services at the First Presbyterian
church. The regular quartet choir will
be augmented by the use of a harp. The
solo player, on this instrument will be

Highland
The services Sunday at the Highland
Congregational Church will be in Cel-
ebration of Christmas. In the morning
Christmas hymns and music will be a
feature. In the evening the choir, with
the assistance of. friends, under the di
rection of M'ss Orrel Rose, will give a
Christmas concert. The items on the
program will include carols, anthems, a
quartet, vocal solos, a 'cello solo, and
other instrumental selections, also an
elocutionary number and a five-minute
talk by the pastor. . The Sunday school

Services at the Pro-Cathedral St
Stephen, Sunday. "The Martyr" will be
taken by Bishop Sumner, who has just
returned from Chicago. He will preach
at 11 and 7:45 o'clock.
Trinity
"Peace and, Good Will" will be the
theme of Rev. A. A. Morrison's Sunday
morning sermon at Trinity Episcopal
church. In the evening the rector will
speak on "New Wine in Old Bottles."
Owing to the epidemic, the church has
decided not to have a Christmas enter
tainment this year.
St. Davids
The last in a series of Advent sermons
will be preached Sunday morning at St.
Davids Episcopal church by Rev. Thomas
Jenkins. At 7:30 p. m., the rector will
conduct a service in preparation for the
Christmas festival. He has Issued- i
Christmas letter In which every mem
ber of the church is reminded of his
jduty to prepare for his communion.
Bishop Hughes to
Dedicate Church
Bishop Matthew Simpson Hughes, D. D.
L.L. D., will dedicate the Garden Home
Methodist church Sunday afternoon at
2 o'clock. An elaborate program has
been prepared by the pastor, Rev. A. B.
Calder. The building is of frame con
struction and is valued at $4000. The
organ was presented by Dr. H. Peterson
of Portland. In the evening at 7 :30
o'clock, Dr. W. W. Youngson will preach.

At the United Presbyterian Church of
the Strangers, Sunday night at 7:30,

siah." Rev. S. Earl DuBols will preach
on "Why Do Boys Steal Autos?" The
morning sermon will aim to show the
real - spirit of Christmas. On Monday

The magnificence of the first Christ
mas will be explained Sunday morning
by Rev. William Reece In his sermon
at the New Christian church (Sweden-
borgian). There will be special music
by Miss Grace Squires. The service will
close with the Lord's supper. Tuesday
evening a class was organised for the
study of the spiritual meaning of Gene
sis and Exodus. This class is to meet
weekly throughout the year. Saturday

Sunday Services at First Chris
tian Church to Be Devoted
to Holiday Programs.
The spirit of Christmas will predom
inate ' in the services in the Christian
churches Sunday.
"Voices of Christmaa" will be the title
of the musical program on Sunday night
by the quartet choir at the First Chris
tian church. This program will take
the place of the Christmas allegory by
the Bible school, which has been post
poned, two weeks on. account of Illness
of those taking part. On Sunday morn
ing Rev. Harold H. Grlffls wlU set forth
the Christmas prophesy of the world
struggle just closing. A soprano solo
with -violin obligato will be rendered
by Miss Gertrude Hoeber. In the eve
ning at 7:45 o'clock the pastor will de
liver a short message on Christmas.
