Thus the Italian people are the first who have recognised that it is neces ' airy for the future peace of Europe to .restore Poland as an Independent state, and. through their representatives, have expressed their belief and their desire. Trench Wary of Spies. -. I had some difficulty in obtaining a , vise for my passport from the French 'consul in Rome to visit Franca, I was told that from America there came many German spies with American ; passports, and for' that reason all Americans, especially those who have other than Yankee names, are regarded with suspicion by the French author ities. Of course, I told the consul that t was not only an American but by birth I waa a Pole, which was double reason to preclude me from being a German - spy.
