" Mr, Wlnnlngham was the guest of C. L. Boss, head of the Oregon dis tributing firm for the .Hudson cars. While on the . Pacific coast attending the California expositions, .Winning ham la combining business with pleas ure and visiting all the Hudson dis tributors. Thursday evening Mr. Boai gave fk dinner at the. Commercial club in honor of his visiting guest, at which a number of the Hudson state dealers, together with the local Hudson organ isation was present. - along the Columbia yl ver highway. However, this Is a trip that la well - worth spending a full .day on. To properly enjoy the many scenic beauties, one must stop, get out of the machine - and absorb the various attractions. The Maxwell Motor Company Inc., has withdrawn from speedway and it la now winding up Its , racing affairs so that there will be no racing payroll after t August 1. Work has been started upon a tract; four 'and one half acres of ground, for the 'erection of a large r.ew plant for the truck organization. The Reo truck Is handled In this terri tory .by the C: L. Boss company. : The additions to the Reo. plant an nounced several weeks ago will bo more extensive than originally planned. " The touring motorist who : travels over the Paclfc highway from Oregon to California will long remember the beauty of the scenery and the splendid character of the road bed of thai rntrt of his journeys that lies betweelr the city oi, Ajsniana .anL the. The trip over the Siskiyou mountains is one of the most wonder ful and beautiful, rides tn America, and the people of Oregon may well consid er this stretch of the Paclfc highway as one of the biggest scenic assets they possess. The old Journey over the' Slskiyoua, on what was known as the Do liar hide toll road, was one of discomfort as well as danger.- It was a "rough and rugged road." with grades as high as 30 per cent. - that taxed the best of machines.. Seven grade crossings over the-tracks, of the Southern Pacific made It dangerous, especially as the grades were heavy on rail j and road. r Boad Has Ho Grade Crosslaga. - The new road that has been laid out in masterly fashion by Frank A. With three tracks In the northwest, purees sufficient to - encourage the - fastest machines to come to this country could be offered. Let Portland wake up to the fact ; that' the automobile racing game la creating an immense amount of Interest amone; the moneyed people throughout the world, and that it is a pastime for hose who love thrilling events.
