Klstler of Gear hart. Oregon, announce the engage ment of. their daughter, Mildred, to Melville W. Carroll, 625 Killlngsworth CONCERNING A GIRL By Jessie Roberts. Some time ago' I printed a letter signed Ruth L. from a girl who want ed to take up a quarter section and become a woman homesteader. A number of persons have written to me since, asking for Ruth's address. One woman writes: "1 am another woman who wants to be on a farm and happy. Send me her address and I will tell her what we can do." Another letter says: "I am inter ested in Ruth L. I am a business wo man, but I have always hankered for the outdoor life." Then there is a letter from a man who writes In this wise: "The want of a kindred soul as partner. In the fullest and best' sense, nas been the stumbling block in the way of my taking a country place and living the simple life. An absolutely solitary life does not appeal to me. I don't believe or feel that it is well for man or woman to be alone. I am a healthy, hearty, wholesome man of forty, of good family, education, and business experience, and have had enough ex perience with poultry and truck to know I can make money with either or both." These are samples of many other letters, for somehow Ruth seems to have struck a responsive note. The trouble Is that Ruth gave me no ad dress, so that I cannot forward any Of these letters to her. If she sees this and cares to reply to any of the writers, will she send her address? Or If any of the persons who wrote me would care to be put In communica tion with the others writers they have only to let me know and I will do what I can. The desire to get back on the land is not all talk. People are sick of city rush and emptiness in many, many cases. Surely these people ought to get Into touch with each other, for often two can accomplish what Is Im possible for one. So please let me hear from all who are Interested. TOWN TOPICS H C. Campbell to lecture. H. C. Campbell will give an illustrated lec ture on his recent trip abroad at 8 o'clock tonight at the Alnsworth school. Twentieth and Elm streets. Portland Heights.
