While running to a store a few blocks away for some candy, Earl Lucy, a deaf mute, attending the state school for -the deaf, was struck yesterday attorpoon by an Oregon ""Elec tric train 'and killed. The boy, who was about IB' years old, had obtained permission to go to the store during an Intermission of school, but Instead of going around by the walk, he attempted a Short cut along the railroad track, and evidently did not see the train com ing. As a reul of Bstur dny'B election, at which taxpayers voted on the proposition of consolidating-' St. Helens and lloulton. both communities voted strongly In favor of .the move, and both communities fittingly cele brated. the occasion Saturday night. In St. Helens tho vote was 150 to 54 tain Houltou the vote was 86 to ia. Both communities are expected to gain, ma terial advantages as a result ef con solidation. The combined towns ' will be known as St. Helens. The change will put St. Helens on the railroad map and will give Houltton a good high school. Increased prosperity Is expected.
