El Paso, Texas, Dec. 21. Dispatches received here from Agua Prleta say it is officially announced there that the cit izens of San Marclal, Sonora, fought the Taqula who massacred them until their ammunition was exhausted and then sur rendered. The Indians are reported to have, massacred hundreds of Innocent residents. This Is the. first time the Yaquis have attacked any large town. FELLOW WORKMEN IN LOGGING CAMPS . The Consum ers' Lumber and Supply company of Burlington, between Holbrook and Port land, was the last employer in Oregon of Ira Jones.' Jones left Burlington only about three weeks ago. He waa rafter for the company and worked for it perhaps two months, during which time his attitude was hot exemplary. His conversation ran along rough lines. Indictment! were returned this week by the .Wash ington county grand Jury against Ed ward Lv and George F. Naylor, charging a statutory crimeJ The charge against Edward Naylor is s sequel to conjec tures as ; to his relationship with the young woman who nursed him during his confinement In a Portland hospital after' being shot by Frank Lenocker, December .9, 1910.' The mystery of the shooting was ' never completely cleared up. Naylor claims he was shot by a man he met while passing through a grove near his residence on the edge of Forest Grove. Lenocker's body was found near by, he having turned his pistol upon himself after shooting Nay lor, and i the latter claimed never to have previously seen bis assailant : The women named in tha indictment Is Miss Martha Travcr, and at the inquest' U developed that she was the first person to reach Naylor after the shooting, aK though be claimed sho was not present when it occurred. Efforts to show that Lenocker and Miss Traver were ac quainted, and thus establish a motive for the shooting were made at the time, but failed. Naylor was confined to the hospital for many months, and was at tended by Miss Traver a portion of the time, - The indictment ; is the outcome of charges that since his recovery they have lived as man and wife. The indictment against the brother, George F. Naylor, charges the same of fense, the name of the woman being Watrous, well known in Forest Grove. The brothers are well known through out tho state, and are wealthy. ' . El- ward was known as a breeder of An goras, his exhibits winning prises at many stock shows. - They are sons of Thomas J. Naylor. a pioneer of Wasn lngton county, who located the Naylor donation land claim, Both were arrested and gave bonds. - Orejcon City, Ore., Dec. 21. Miss Hat tie Hutchinson, the pretty 17 year old telephone operator at the Good Samar itan hospital, Portland, utterly reversed the ethics of marriage license procedure this morning in the county clerk's of fice. Miss Hutchinson, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Clara Hutchinson and R. Soper, well-known residents ot Can- by, Ore., came before Miss iva Har ring ton, deputy county clerk. "I want a license,". , said Mr. Soper, "And your name?" asked Misa Har rington of Miss Hattie. "Oh, it's not for me. I only came to make the affidavit for mama," replied the girl. "Whereupon the young tele phone operator declared that she waa' well acquainted with Mr. Soper, that both be and her mama were over 21 years of age.;; ; - V' "And you know of no legal lmpedi ment to the marriage." t "Why of course not", smilingly ans wered the, girl from the Good Samar itan." Carml Thompson, the new treasurer of the United States, is 41 years old and a native of West Virginia. Since his early youth, however, ha has re sided in Ohio, where he began life as a coal miner.
