The government trefused to turn It over to the state for : Jtlie purpose proposed, and the commis ' -ilon had to let the. matter drop. ;Th ! 'government , recently decided that It t i was unsuitable for their purpose, and f '.the state therefore stands a good chance of obtaining it again, . Want Trout Season Change. " The board authorized the expenditure of 500 from the state funds for the construction of . a : f lshway over 1 4he rocky formation in Hood River known as the ."PunchbowL Sportsmen and the Commercial club of Hood River have already raised 1350 to be used for this purpose, and in clearing out a dam at the mouth of the river which pre vents the stream from flowing Into the Columbia in its natural course. When both of these improvements have been completed, re-Jents of the Hood River country hope to see fish in the stream become plentiful again. , A committee from the Multnomah An glers' club appeared before the com Tnlsslon with regard to contemplated changes in the' open season for trout risning. The committee asked for a winter trout fishing season below tide water. ? The recommendation will be made to the legislature that this be considered In the revision of th,e fish and game laws this winter. ' Representatives of fishermen on Til lamook Bay and Nehalem also appeared before the board and asked that changes be made In the location of the fishing dead lines. A request also came from Tillamook that the Trask river salmon hatchery, near that bay, be moved over to the Wilson river, a few miles dis tant. Both the Trask and the Wilson flow into Tillamook bay. will be. submitted to the legislature at its session this winter. OFFICER OF WOODMEN 1 OF WORLD HANDLES " ILL MEMBER'S AFFAIRS ' One fifth of the world's production of sugar la consumed In the United States. a . Overtaken by serious illness, e) an owner of a local movinr pio- e ture theatre, whose - name is ) '. withheld . for . obvious reasons, e I was compelled to give up his theatre and store his furnish- 4 lngs, worth approximately $2000. He had no relatives in Port- . 4 land. For this reason he turned to the Woodmen, of the World, of which he is a member, to at- ) tend to his business affairs. J. O. Wilson, secretary of the or- ' e ganlzation, took charge of mat- ) ters and on the instructions .Of the man inserted advertisements e offering . the ' stored ; theatrical furnishings for sale. The three . 4 principal newspapers or tne city e were employed for this purpose. The ads were run for several days in all three papers and a . few replies were received, the majority being answers from e Journal readers. Then The Jour- e nars columns Were used exclu- slvely and Mr. Wilson said to day that he has, as a result, numbers of "good prospects" and can close any of the deals at a good "figure, the moment the theatrical man Is well enough to talk business. An idea of the effectiveness of The Journal want ad columns may be gained when it Is known that The . Journal ad which brought these results contained Just eight words: ."For Sale- Complete moving picture outfit. Call B-1980." This is proof, positive that Journal ads are read.
