The editorial follows: "On September 24 th people of the Second district of Oregon will nominate a Republican candidate for congress. Thla district Is' now misrepresented by Congressman Ellis. In spite of his con- ' slstent record of 'system service,' Ellis Is seeking renomlnatlon. Opposing him in Charles J. Reed of Portland. Mr. Reed is a genuine progressive. His honesty and his faithfulness . to public Interest have been tested. He was Francis J. Heney's chief assistant In prosecuting land frauds in Oregon. He was appointed to this position by Presi dent Roosevelt over the bitter objection of Senator Fulton and Oregon's congressmen.- He made good. The complete registration for Curry county shows: Republicans, 32; Democrats. 139; In dependent; Socialists, 14; not stated. IS. Total; , 620. This Is the largest registration ever given for Curry aounty, and lacks only S6 of the total vote .two years ago. TO HELP EAST SIDE Twenty of the Portland Railway, Light & Power company's new broad gauge pay as you enter cars are en route to Portland from the American Car company factory In St Louis and are expected 'to arrive soon. President B. S. Josselyn stated to day that these cars will be placed in service on the Mount Scott line until the Waverly-Woodstock line has been made broadgauge, when they will go on that line. . Their places on the Mount Scott line will be taken by cars from the Oregon City line on which the company haa decided to run two-car multiple motor trains." This change will mean Improved service on'all the lines mentioned. The r.ew cars are much larger than those now In use on the Vverly-Woodstock line and the Oregon City cars are larger than those now operated on the Mount! Scott .line. The multiple unit , motor trains, will make better time and have greater capacity than the cars now In the Interurban service. : ' Six of these cars are nearly com pleted In the company's car shop In this city. . , WOMAN PEEKS THROUGH HOLE AND GETS EVIDENCE "That man looked as though he lived on rata, and mighty poor ones at that I've always heard, that some Chinamen eat rats. Many of them look skinny and starved." This was the way May Spencer, a private detective, described the appearance of C. J. Hoolbrook yes terday, in testifying In the divorce suit of William 3. Huston in the circuit court. . Hoolbrook Is mixed up in the marital troubles of the Huston family, being the star boarder. In the home before it was broken up last May. The private detective said she boarded at the Huston home , one week to get evidence. She added that she accomplished her pur pose by peeping through an opening in the floor of her room. The detective said she saw Mrs. Hus ton give one of. the children a bath in front of Hoolbrook, and that Hoolbrook later took a bath In Mrs. Huston's presence. She also said Mrs. Huston went into Hoolbrook'a room. When the detective gave the signal the officers broke into" the room. Mrs. Huston fled from the room, leaving her slippers, and declaring her dream had come true. This dream, testified the witness, was that Mrs. Huston had dreamed that something awful would happen. The aeteeuve rurtner testified that Mrs. Huston had told her a fortune teller had related that some day she would marry another man and they would travel in Europe. Huston la 47 years old and is a brides builder. His wife is it years old, and Hoolbrook Is 26 years old. Huston haa charged his wife with statutory oft renses covering the past four years.
