Of Portland and Oregon. therefore, it Jiiav be said that general Interest In them commenced about four years ago. The question now resolves itself Into a comparatively easy proposition. Each of, these theatres has lta own fiarticular clientele that could not be ndured to go elsewhere1, but all are well patron lx-d by the mass of the theatre-going public as well. R IHSIaKIIHUMlIMiniU tlalng has not only played the prin cipal role In the development of Port ' 'land and Oregon, but has played all the j roles, the entire oast, from leading man to chorus girl. r . Advertising, however, may do classi fied under thousands of different- heads, i' 'such as private correspondence between ..- it he new comer and-the eastern resident. the circulation of our state newspapers throughout the east ana our magazines; the intercourse of our people with the '-eastern people while traveling. But generally, the intelligent, forceful, sys tematic publicity efforts that have been i ex tended by our commercial organiza tions, our publicity bureaus and our 'business Interests. To even dare to estimate the financial cost of thia work .would be presumptions. The net value of the results of this work is beyond computation. . . It is Interesting, from the advertis ing man's standpoint, to recognize the - 'complete revolution of advertising methods in the west, as compared with it hose of the east.' In Chicago, New York,'! (Philadelphia and , Boston the advertis ing writers greatest difficulty is In ' finding enough arguments and enough truths to convince the reader. In the west the advertising writer finds It dif ficult to temper his reading matter down fto sufficient ronservatlve statements to sret the eastern man to believe it. The .greatest handicap that Portland and Oregon have had m introducing them selves io me eastern man and woman lis the multiplicity of actual facts which : ra too good, too optimistic, too Impos sible for the eastern mind to contem plate. j. R. & N. railroad, now being rushed between Portland and Tillamook, means much for the busy man of af fairs for it will bring the above three beach resorts nearer to the city than any others, they being only 68 miles almost due west of this city. The new railroad brings these resorts 50 miles nearer than Seaside, 60 miles nearer than Long Beach. 110 miles nearer than Newport and 20 miles nearer than Tillamook Bay. Also, under this head we wish to state that a large amount ' of improvements, including the clearing of the streets and tiie in stalling of a thorough water system, is projected for this summer. NECARNEY CITY Is cue of the most beautiful and enchanting beach resorts to bt found on two ocean. "Nestling almost at the font of majestic NECARNEY MOUNTAIN, this tract of 164 acres extending from the ocean back toward Nehalem bay, s an IDEAL BEACH RESORT. With a perfect beach and an elevation of about 40 feet, sloping gently to a magnificent natural park of second growth fir, upruce and hemlock, and the awe-inspiring mountain standing sen tinel, NECARNEY CITY is indeed a place of idle rett and reverie for all seeking escape from the monotony of other resorts of that "sameness" which characterize them. NECARNEY CITY, SEABRIGHT and NEHALEM BAY PARK will be one continuous resort in a few years and building sites will be at a premium. On account of these resorts being the first reached by the railroad (within 2yi hours from Portland), there will be a big clamor for lots on the completion the railroad and prices will prohibit those who can afford to buy now from securing a lot. It is expected that the P. R. & X. railroad will le completed this year. Work is being poshed rapidly from both ends.
