M and 8T HASmiZTT MSTA. Trouble, worry and Ill-health brought me deep lines and wrinkles. I realised that they not only greatly marred m appearance and marie me look muc elder, but that they would greatly inter fere wim my success, because -a wo man's success either socially or flnan cmiiy aepenaa very largely, on ner ap pearance. The homely woman, with deep lines and furrows In her lace, must fight an unequal battle with her younger ana oeuer looking sister. I therefore bought various brands oi coia cream and skin roods and man. saged my face with most constant reg ularity, hoping to regain my former appearance. But the- wrinkles simply wouia not go. on the contrary they seemed to 'get deeper. Next I went to a beauty specialist, who told me she could easily rid me of my wrinkles. I paia my money and took the treatment. Sometimes I thought they got less, but after spending all the money I could afford for such treatment, I found I buii naa my wrinkles. So I gave up in aespair ana concluded I must carry them to toy grave. One day a friend of mine who was versed In chemistry, made a suggestion, and this gave me a new laea, x immediately went to work making experiments and studying everything I could get hold of on the subject. After several long months of almost .numberless trials and discour agements. I fin&llv diannvoMut cess which produced most astounding my , wrinmes m a single night. I was delighted beyond ex pression. I tried my treatment again, ana lo and behold! my wrinkles were practically gone. A third treatment, three nights in all and I had no wrinkles and my face was as smooth as ever. I next offered my treatments to some of my Immediate friends, who used it with surprising results, and I have now decided to offer it to the pub lic. Miss Gladys Desmond, of Pitts burg, Pa., writes that It made her wrinkles disappear In one night Mrs. M. W. Graves, of Bridgeport, Conn., states: "There is not a wrinkle left, my friends say I look JO years younger. I consider your treatment a godsend to womankind." Mrs. James Sf Central City, S. The figures col lected together in 'the fire chiefs re port totaled $639,157, which is nearly twice as much as it cost to run Lhf department tnis year. Among the items cut out by the committee were several new engine houses and additional equipment and apparatus therefor. Two of these proposed stations, one at Eajit Twmtv. second and Thompson streets and the inner in AiDina, were declared by Messrs. Sullivan and Swett as entirely unnecessary. .Recommendations by the chief that stations be built at Third and Gllsau streets in the wholesale and manu facturing district and at some other point near tne city hospitals were ep proved. A water tower will ulan f included in the list of Items tnnrand. So great was the discrepancy between the estimate made by the fire chief and in the sum allowed him by the com mittee that Mayor Lane called a secret session of the committee In his office. CREMATORY MT . THREATEII CITY A meeting of the citlxens of Portland to discuss the question of securing a new garbage crematory has been called by the Portland realty board, to be held next Tuesday night at the com mercial club. S. H. Oruber, president of the municipal affairs committee of the chamber of commerce has con sentedMo address the. meeting, and all cltisens interested in this Important matter are invited to be present. Portland Is In Imminent danger of an Invasion of the plague on account of the countless thousands of rats which throng the old city crematory on Guild's lake, according to a circular letter Is sued yesterday by the realty board. The letter quotes Superintendent Daggett of the crematory to this effect, and says that Mr. Daggett's statements, made before the municipal affairs committee of the chamber of commerce last Wednesday are corroborated by Dr. Esther Pohl, city health officer. Mr. Daggett's staitling statements Is as follows: "Rats hundreds of thousands of them multitudes of them, no one knows how many, breeding, Increasing and multiplying every minute, every day, every hour, in the festering, cor rupting dump covering four acres of ground adjacent to the city crematory a crematory originally built to accom modate a cltv of 70,000 inhabitants, with a capacity of 26 tons' of garbage a day, now receiving from 86 to 40 tons and what is not consumed 4s dumped on four acres of land adjoining, with the result that It affords a breeding place lor countless tnousanas or rats, which form a menace to the health of the city which few .of . our people are aware of." Dr. Pohl declares that the first period of high water In Portland would result in submerging the dump and driving tne rats to mgner grouna. wnere tney would Invade the dwellings and scatter through the city. These rats may al ready be infected with plague, and If they are, the consequences to the city would oe appalling. Besidence Snap.
