By handing down a decision Hn the ease of the Cyclone Mining company of South Dakota, against the Baker City Light & Power company, and the Rock, Creek' Power & Transmission company, Judge Wolverton in the United States circuit court hold that before foreign corporations can have standing In the Oregon courts they must comply with the provisions of the state law, , The Oregon law on this question requires that corporations or- ganized in other states must appear efore the secretary of state before their business in Oregon is properly recognized by law. The demurrer of the plaintiff company la dismissed by the court. The suit was the result of a contract for power which it was claimed was never furnished. Only $60 was allowed by a Jury as damages for Philip Fischer, who claimed $750 for injuries sustained in being run down bv a delivery wagon belonging to the Butternut Bread' com pany at Third and Salmon streets Fischer was riding a bicycle and alleged that the accident was due to the care lessness of the driver of the wagon. The testimony was heard in Judge Cleland's department of the circuit ' court, a verdict being returned last night. Injured the next day after' he was employed to drive a delivery wagon for the Washington creamery, Joe Farrell, 1ft years of age, has begun suit in the circuit court through his mother and guardian, Mrs. A. M. Farrell, agalrtst.. A. C. Grossman and W. C, Dey, pro prietors of the creamery, for $6000 damages. Ha alleges that the horse furnished him was unruly and that, the wagon and harness were defeotlve. Mels ter for a saloon license at 300 Grand avenue. Patrons of Husbandry. - It Is composed of delegates representing all the granges in Linn county, and its utterances are probably widely reflective of the senti ment among farmers throughout that county. .!.', A feature of distinctive Interest in the resolution is that the organisation calls on all the granges to, Join in the defense of the commonwealth against the plan for restoration of the old po litical conditions - in the state. The resolution, which was passed unani mously December 6. Is as follows: "Whereas, The state grange at Its last session set aside a liberal-sum to procure competent legal asslstancevtln defending our direct primary Initiative ana reierenaum laws wnicn are jeopard ized by the action taken by the Pacific States Telephone & Telegraph company in taking this matter up to the highest tribunals of the land with the avowed intention of destroying its workings; mereiore oe n "Resolved, by the Linn counoy coun cil.
